The Conjuring Nursery, Part 1

When Kevin and Sabrina moved into their new house, they thought it was a dream come true for them, but they had no idea how many of their dreams would end up coming true. It was a large, old mansion in the middle of nowhere that had been repaired by the previous owners, who'd quickly flipped it for a reasonable price. In their mid-20s, Kevin and his wife had been looking for a home like this all the time they'd been together, so they were elated to have found this one and wasted no time in moving in. Not long after they did, they discovered a room on the second floor that the previous owners had sealed up and hidden.

Upon opening it up, they found the room completely empty: no furniture, no decorations, no lights, nothing. They were standing on the bare floor, looking around in confusion when Sabrina said, "I wish we at least had some light in here."

Suddenly, a lamp, lit and brightly shining, appeared on the ceiling above their heads. The couple stared at it in amazement and looked at each other as they processed what had just happened. The lamp had not been there before. They could see the ceiling well enough from the light in the hallway, and they'd looked all over the room for a light or a switch. There had been nothing there until Sabrina had wished for a light.

Staring at each other knowingly, a smile starting to form on her lips, Sabrina said, "I wish I had a chocolate chip cookie."

Instantly, a chocolate chip cookie materialized in her hand. She tasted it, and it was delicious, one of the best she'd ever eaten. Somehow, this room granted wishes, and they immediately put it to the test by wishing for whatever nice things they could think of. They wished for money, booze, food, jewelry, nice clothes, expensive furniture. They ate their fill and got plastered in the most fashionable clothes they'd ever worn. They slept in the most comfortable bed they'd ever touched. When they woke up, they had the biggest, best breakfast of their lives. After that, they started drinking, dancing, and laughing, partying the day away, making wishes and collecting things.

They spent the next day doing the same thing as well as the day after that. This hedonistic lifestyle went on for some time as the couple accumulated a wealth of expensive things. But eventually, Kevin and Sabrina grew bored with eating, drinking, and collecting all day. They wanted a challenge, and they wanted some more companionship. They wanted to start a family. After having all of their other desires gratified instantly, though, they weren't used to waiting for anything they wanted, and they didn't want to wait to have their baby. Besides, Kevin reasoned, pregnancy carried risks. Something could go wrong, and the baby could miscarry, or Sabrina could be hurt.

"And pregnancy changes your body," Sabrina replied. "I'm not looking forward to that. Do you know how many women have a baby and then can't control their pee? No thanks!"

So, they wished for a baby, healthy, beautiful, and perfect, and that's what they got. They named him Oliver, and their life immediately began to revolve entirely around him. Of course, they needed a lot of new stuff to help them care for him, so they wished themselves up a nursery fully-furnished and stocked. Sabrina wasn't lactating, so their son drank the best and healthiest formula in the world, and he wore the most comfortable clothes and the most comfortable and absorbent diapers. They loved him and cared for him very attentively, and the three of them were very happy together for some time, the young couple just enjoying being parents to their baby.

Then one day, Kevin was sitting with Oliver cradled in his arms, talking to him and just staring down at his innocent little face. He was so preoccupied with looking at the baby that he didn't realize he'd wandered into the wish-granting room as he looked into those little eyes and said, "Daddy's cute little guy. I can't wait to see you grow into a little boy I can teach things to."

Whether it was automatic or the result of some twisted sense of humor, that was all the wish the room needed as the baby suddenly began to grow right in front of Kevin's eyes, getting gradually heavier. In seconds, Oliver had grown from an infant to a toddler and finally to a kid who looked to be about six years old, his onesie and diaper having ripped off him as he grew larger. It happened so fast and Kevin was so shocked and amazed that he didn't think to undo the wish. He could only watch in awe as his son aged a few years right in front of his eyes.

"Oh my god!" he exclaimed. "I didn't mean to do that! Are you okay, baby? Can you talk?"

"Yeah, I'm okay," the little boy said hesitantly, speaking for the first time in his life but doing so as if he'd been doing it for a few years.

"I don't think Mommy's gonna be too happy about this, but we'd better get some clothes on you. Do you know how to use the potty?"

"Uh-huh."

"Good. I want some nice, comfortable clothes and underwear for Oliver."

The room obliged, producing a full outfit and a colorful pair of briefs. Kevin set him down and helped him put everything on, and then they went to tell Sabrina what had happened. She was sad to see that Oliver was no longer a baby and that she had missed watching him grow, but she took it rather well. They told him to go play so they could talk for a while.

They watched him leave the room, and Sabrina said, "How could this have even happened? The room couldn't do anything to our bodies."

"I've been thinking about that," Kevin replied, "and I think it's because his body came from the room rather than our bodies. It made him, so it can change him around according to any wish made."

"That makes sense."

"Yeah, and I think if we don't make any more wishes, he won't age any further. He'll stay as young as he is now."

"He could be a kid forever?" Sabrina asked.

"He could be, yeah."

"Wow," Sabrina said thoughtfully. "I wish there was some way we could keep ourselves young."

"That'd be nice."

Gasping suddenly, Sabrina said, "We could turn Oliver back into a baby!"

"What?"

"You just said it: the room can change him according to any wish made. So, all we have to do is wish for him to be a baby again."

"Yeah, I guess we could. But should we?"

"Kev, he's so young! He's really only two months old! And he missed out on all of his baby years and his toddler years! He missed so much! So did we! Learning to talk, learning to walk, potty training. All those sweet little moments gone! But we could fix that. We could wish he was a baby again and then wish for him to age normally. And then in a few years, we get to see the same cute little boy he is now again."

Kevin thought for a bit and said, "That makes sense. It's not really fair to him to miss all that. But what if it's not what he wants? Should we ask him?"

"Honey, he's still just a baby! We're the grown-ups here, so it's our job to make these decisions for him. That's the job we took on when we wished him into existence."

"Okay. Let's do it now. It could be harder on him if we wait."

"Right."

"Oliver!" Kevin called out.

There was no answer, so they walked out to find out, hearing footsteps running up the stairs. They followed, calling out to him again.

The answer came, "I'm up here!"

Kevin and Sabrina followed the sound of their little boy's voice up the stairs, thinking it was convenient since it meant he was already close to the wishing room. When they got to the top of the stairs, they saw him run into the room at the end of the hall. Something about it looked weird to them, and they glanced at each other before running towards the open door, calling the kid's name. They ran into the room and turned to see not their little boy but a full-grown man, who stood completely nude, his old clothes ripped to shreds at his feet. Stunned, they stopped dead in their tracks and stood open-mouthed.

"What--?" Sabrina stammered.

"Oliver?!" Kevin exclaimed.

"Yeah, it's me. I heard you guys talking about making me a baby again, and I wanted to see what being a grown-up was like. I like it, and I'm not going back." Before the couple could process what was happening, he said, "I want the room to grant only my wishes from now on."

Sabrina's heart skipped a beat at those words, and she blurted out, "I wish Oliver was a baby again!"

Nothing happened. The room had granted his wish, and he grinned before scowling slightly and saying, "You tried to make me a baby! I said I didn't want to be a baby! Let's see how you like it! I wish Sabrina was a baby!"

Again, nothing happened. Kevin took advantage of the pause and rushed Oliver to try to get him out of the room before anything else happened. The two men grappled, the two-month old holding his own.

Suddenly, Oliver got another idea and said, "I wish I was bigger than Kevin! I wish I was so big that he was like a baby to me!" Instantly, he started to grow taller, wider, and stronger until he was more than twice as tall as Kevin.

Oliver then easily overpowered his dad, pushing him to the floor and holding him down. He looked up to see Sabrina bolt for the door, but he stopped her by saying, "I want the door closed!"

The door slammed shut just as she reached it. She grabbed the handle and twisted, but Oliver grabbed her from behind and scooped her up, Kevin dangling from one arm and struggling to get free. They both writhed and kicked, but it was no good because he was so much stronger than both of them. He stood there for a minute, just enjoying his new size and strength and laughing at their relative weakness.
