Translation Policy and Style Notes

Hey folks,

I've gotten a few questions over time about what the stance is towards fan translation. Rather than answering them each time it comes up, I wanted to just get it all down in one place to refer to in the future.

The short version is: I'm incredibly flattered by people wanting to translate the project and I'm happy for them to do so! However, there are a few specific restrictions I'd like to lay out below:

Keep Attribution Clear
- Very simply: don't claim that you wrote the story, and likewise don't claim that you're an 'official' translation or affiliated with the team. Always link back to the original project via Itch, Patreon, or Bluesky when sharing it.
Don't share Patreon Content
- Please don't distribute translated Patreon builds or paywalled development articles before they're made publicly available.
Don't use AI Tools
- Consent is not given for any of UNDER | HEAVEN to be fed into machine translation tools or AI models.
Don't Monetize it
- Please do not sell or solicit donations for fan translations. If you're interested in doing translations in a more official capacity, please reach out and we may be able to work something out.
Revocability
- All of the above may be withdrawn on a case by case basis for any reason or no reason at all (if you turn out to be a Nazi or something, we're allowed to tell you to take a hike).

Additionally, if you're interested in doing a fan translation this document may be of some use in translating the intent behind particular phrases or character voices. I'm always happy to answer questions about that sort of thing and am best reached on the UNDER | HEAVEN Bluesky account.
