Often when putting together a project the set, props and costumes are recreations of things from the games they are about. So we don't often have the need to fully concept things from scratch!
This project was always going to be a much bigger production than usual and as such needed some more design work than we typically have to do. The Children of Atom are a religion made up of lots of smaller groups spread across the wasteland, each with their own quirks and beliefs. This gave us the freedom to pick and choose and to create our own little CoA outpost without having to adhere to any specific group you meet in the games.
I thought you all might like a look at the concept art I worked up for the project! Whenever we do plans and designs the mantra is always 'start ambitious then work it back to what's achievable as you work' so you'll see here some of the ideas we had that never made the final cut. That being said we got remarkably close to the original plans!
You'll notice from the Charisma 0/5/10 names beneath the costumes that there was originally a different plan for the video. For a long time the plan was to have the costume change to the tattered televangelist suit and wig as soon as the character took their first Voca-Stim. But the costume for 'Charisma 0' turned out so well we wanted it to have more screen time, so we opted to have the initial change be just in performance style and keep the costume change for a later dose that we worked into the story. Meaning that by the end their charisma is technically way above the max 10!
The addition of reading glasses to the first costume was a last minute thing I added on the night of the shoot, simply so that they could then take them off after the first dose, to make for a small visual progression between phases of the character where the full costume change would have previously been. Ultimately I think they really helped add something to the character at the beginning, I don't think I'd have played them anywhere near as infirm and doddery had I not had the reading glasses informing the character.
