Stupes and I are massive Sonic fans. We both grew up watching the TV shows and playing the games, so we just had to make a Sonic project eventually! And Shadow is obviously the best character, introduced in the best game! (I will fight anyone that didn’t enjoy Sonic Adventure 2).
If you read the description for the video, you’ll know that we actually filmed this music video twice. We had a very rushed filming session after a long day of working on the North Pole Corporate Takeover set, and the results were… not good. Maybe we’ll show you some of the footage when we get around to the Shadow BTS video? But the second version is much better!
This final video has much better outfits, lighting, camerawork, and a motorbike! We said on the day that we literally spent as long filming the entire first version of the video as we did setting up the lights in a satisfying way for the motorbike shots. We made good use of our friends the Aputure Infinibars to make it look like lights were whizzing past the static motorbike, which took a few hours!
Our cameraman and cinematographer Paul truly makes every project he touches better! It was just me and Stupes running on very little sleep filming the first version, all just on a tripod so everything was very static. Paul with his lighting knowledge and gimble means beautiful lighting and beautiful camera moves. We do own our own gimble, but boy is that thing a nightmare to set up. Especially at midnight when you’re starting shooting…
So, I hope it was all worth it, and you like how it turned out! Many more videos are in the works, hopefully it won’t be too long a wait before the next one!
