Lara, Origins Part 3

Okay, so this is probably the longest bit of story that I've written for anything so far. The last part won't be this long, but for this one I just got on a roll, okay. If it isn't obvious, I still haven't decided what her boyfriend's name is going to be.

Lara paused before hitting the call button. Was he going to be upset? What would he say? She took a deep breath and started the call. He picked up quickly (as he usually did), “Hey baby, I just got out of Calc, what’s going on?” the voice on the phone said. Lara sniffled a few times, “Babe, are you okay?” he continued. Lara responded after another second, stuttering a little while holding back tears, “Y-yeah, I’m-m okay. I was just sitting on the c-couch and realized how… how…” she paused. “Realized what, babe?”

"Realized how fat I got!” she practically yelled. “I’ve got rolls, babe, and not small ones. I guess I’ve been in denial about it for a while, but it just hit me all at once. I looked at a couple old pictures and I’ve probably put on 50lbs since we met, people probably think I’m disgusting!” There was a bit of a pause before his response. “Babe. Lara. We’ve been together for almost two years already. I honestly thought you would’ve noticed...” he trailed off a bit, and Lara jumped in, “Noticed what?! That I’m a fat-ass?!”

"No, no, not at all!” her significant other continued, “realized that… that I… I kinda… I kinda like your rolls.” The short pause before his first response seemed long at the time, but the pause that followed this statement seemed much longer. Lara no longer had to hold back tears because her panic and anxiety quickly evaporated into shock. “You kinda like them?” she asked to confirm. “Yeah, I… I think you look sexy with a few extra pounds on you.” More shock rolled through Lara’s mind before he continued, “I actually hoped that you had just noticed that I like that and that you’d been eating more to try and look sexy for me.” As he thought about it, he realized how much of a shock this must have been for her, “I guess we never talked about it, you know? But you know who my favorite celebs are, right? I thought I’d made it pretty clear that I’m not into the skinny girls.”

Her shock started turning into something else entirely now. Even though they had been together for some time, she had never quite been able to get a read on what he liked. Many things started clicking in Lara’s head. So many interactions now made much more sense than they had at the time. She had just assumed that he was getting better at sex, not that her ballooning waistline was getting him more invested in it. And if she were being totally honest with herself, if this was what got him that much more into it, then it may be worth it to explore this new territory a bit further. “So… this is what you’re into then?” she asked, now somewhat rhetorically. He thought for a second, he didn’t want to scare her (because, you know, he actually liked her for more than just how much she could eat), and finally responded, “Yeah, it is. But if it makes you feel bad about yourself and you want to lose weight I’ll support you because I love you.”

All the emotions she had been experiencing had calmed down a lot by now, and that last statement was all Lara really needed to hear to make up her mind for the time being, “I appreciate that, and I’ll reserve the right to accept that offer if I ever feel the need to, buuuuut...” she took an extra second to build up a little more tension, “it was just... how far I’ve let myself go came as a bit of a surprise to me. I think I’ll be able to get over it if it’s really been making you happy.” Lara was pretty sure she could hear the angels singing and celebration music playing in his head. He kept himself as calm and collected as he could given that one of his wildest dreams was coming true right in front of him, “Are you sure, babe?” Lara took a deep breath before confirming, “Yes. Yes I’m sure. Now come over here and bring me some lunch, all this excitement got me really hungry.”
