So on learning that studio Science Saru is doing a Ghost in the Shell adaptation, and that it MIGHT be more like the original manga, I got pretty excited. I love (some) of the Ghost in the Shell adaptations dearly. Though one thing has stuck out to me. The shows and movies all have a much more serious and even somber Motoko Kusunagi. While the comic book version was a bit more of... a goofball. Everyone's pretty excited at the idea that we might finally get goofy Masamune Shirow Motoko Kusunagi in an animated series, so I had to do a sketch to celebrate. Drink up!

i hear that the first anime movie was directed by a friend of shirow's, and was adored by him as well: since then, i've suspected that shirow enjoys seeing wildly different interpretations of his creative universe; marveling at what other people take away from it and focus on. from that perspective, a one-to-one adaptation is intriguing, but also a certain variety of let-down. XD
