[BoofVR] First Alpha Release!
Added 2019-01-31 03:06:18 +0000 UTC
That took way longer to fix than it should have, but I'm here to happily share with my patrons a side project that has been in the works! Thank you everyone who supported me on this development as well <3
Simply put, a VR experience with boofs and the hefty physics they come with!
Please note that this demo is the very bare stage of development for this project - there's still long ways to get physics, interaction and gameplay working but we'll get there <3
---
Currently best for Oculus Touch - there are quite a lot of gesture combinations you can do for the set of paws you have! Other notes include:
- Move right trigger stick to rotate yourself left / right
- The "X" and "A" buttons (left and right controllers) will rotate Were front or back view
- ESC to quit game
- 2GB space required
- There are plans for controls with regular mouse and keyboard for non-VR users too!
If you have ideas and such you'd like to share, please feel free to comment! I've been noting down many of suggestions and ideas all around ever since the first quick previews on Twitter. Let's make one handsome game with boofs now!
Please also let me know if it isn't launching for anyone else - I have not tested it yet with other VR platforms apart from Oculus. You can find the download link to the game here:
OneDrive Download - BoofVR Alpha
The password for my patrons: 8b2E6SevXFJFPT8jxAy6
*PLEASE USE WINRAR OR 7ZIP OR SIMILAR TO UNZIP FILES. Windows' built-in one does NOT work. I apologize for this, and will fix the issue for the next releases! <3
And please do NOT share/distribute the project around publicly nor privately!
Thank you, and enjoy yourselves with a big boofer! <3
Just subbed and its saying the file is missing or that i dont have permission to view? Kinda sucks waste of a dollar

Tried on Windows 10 with Oculus Rift S, but getting a fatal error on bootup. Is this version only for older Oculus Touch?

It should be working now. Might've been a hiccup from OneDrive's side - you have to be logged in to download it. I'll see about getting a mirror site to upload builds.

I'll have a check about the download problem. Thanks for letting me know! I'll reupload and see if that works. Cheers!

I know im late but I found a little glitch *don't ask how* but if you put your hands in his feet you can drag him around with you

So, is this currently able to play without the Oculus in any way? For me it's just stuck at a loading screen, and a ground view looking at your boof's paws. I'm sure sure if it's crashing for me or something.

Got BoofVR but I feel like it needs to be optimized. Either that or my PC is not ready for this. I only have a 1060 in and it crashes every time.

Signed up for patreon just to play this and slap a VR dong. It works well enough on my system (16GB Ram, GTX1080 3GB, and Ryzen 7 2700X) with HTC Vive. Squishy physics for everything. Only complaint: I felt very short while playing (height adjust in future?). Can't wait to see more so please keep up the good work.

I literally just ordered an Oculus just so I can experience this. Been following you on Twitter for a while and I love what your doing. Can’t wait to get my “hands” on that big boof!

I didnt get specific stats but the FPS was def above 30 FPS for me. My GPU is AMD Vega 64, 8 gigs of VRAM 16 Gigs of system RAM, a very old 4th gen i7. Ran this on a Windows Mixed Reality headset through Steam VR. All in all i am blown away by what you have so far!
2019-02-11 23:08:41 +0000 UTC
Near the end of the month, if not middle. I'm currently looking into getting a Vive set at some point later to better test with its controllers as well. Won't be by this month of course :)

When is the next update coming? Also I hope Vive gets more features.
2019-02-10 20:46:15 +0000 UTC
Hahah, I aim to see this through to live up to its name! While development will take its pace towards perfection slowly, it'll be worth it at the very least :)
I have noted down that it's choppy and currently looking into providing settings to lower it down for those who are experience low FPS/stutter! Fingers crossed that'll be in and done soon. Definitely looking into getting multiple characters down the road (you can see other models I've done of my characters on my Twitter/FA), and interaction is still in the works. No official dates yet when it'll be ready since I'd like to make sure it works first and foremost! Thank you so much for your feedback and pledging, I appreciate it loads! :)

Totally understandable, it is not optimized just yet so I will be looking into lowering down settings and such :) thank you for letting me know it works with your Windows MR headset though! That's very good to know!

Hello there! Thank you for reminding me, I forgot to edit the description to say that you should use Winrar / 7zip or any other similar programs instead of Windows' built-in one - this however will be fixed for the next update release. It's due to the naming scheme, so I'll change that :) thank you for mentioning it!

"So heads up; BoofVR is literally going to be a big boofy experience :9"
Thank you so much for that. It's pretty much perfect character wise. Like unghh.
I own a vive, and although it's quite choppy (970GTX), the BOOF experience is amazing. Multiple characters, or (dare I dream) a way to make this giant interactively more comfortable (he seems a bit pent up).. I'm just gonna pledge and see where this is going. Thank you so much.

It is a bit laggy for me due to the lack of good computer hardware, but it works with my windows mixed reality headset ^^
2019-02-05 13:26:29 +0000 UTC
- Moving around the space -is what needed mostly for me. My room is to small for VR so all I can touch right now is a tip of his dick. Overall it's looks really promising, can't wait for the future updates. )
2019-02-03 22:30:40 +0000 UTC
i Cant seem to extract the files once i have downloaded it? Everytime when i extract it it keeps saying that it can't extract the application to run it?
am i doing it wrong or is there a specific way to install it? (is there a tutorial)
UPDATE: don't worry, the problem was i didn't use Winrar to extract it. i was using windows to extract it.
2019-02-03 01:18:42 +0000 UTC
That's more than fine! :) This is the reason why the demo is only at $1 for immediate access, it's more than understandable to drop it if you can't run it due to hardware or anything like that. Either way, I really appreciate that you've supported with the pledge! Everything helps towards the development of this, and thank you too for still supporting my art by other means - I really appreciate it! :)

2019-02-02 15:55:28 +0000 UTC
I feel awful about this, I pledged $5 so I could try the demo, but I feel I can't continue. I was only getting about 10 fps and I'm not sure if it's the game or my hardware, and my playspace isn't big enough to move around as much as I need to. I may re-pledge in the future, but for now I just can't justify it, especially since I'm not even sure if my hardware can handle it. I'm so sorry. I'll continue supporting your art however I can. <3
2019-02-02 09:42:51 +0000 UTC
Please also bear in mind that changes won't be done within 1-2 days as I've got patreon sketch rewards, commission work and irl normal day-job on weekdays. I usually take bits of my days to progress this, otherwise normally progress happens on weekends! :) <3

As quick write-up from current outstanding feedback, I'll be looking into:
- Performance settings
- Hand gestures smoothing in/out and sometimes seem to not pose to right ones depending on hands irl
- Ability to move around in the space by teleporting (especially for those who have very tight amount of play area for their setup)
Other things in plans BUT will take time to get to:
- Mouse + Keyboard controls (bear with this, it'll require a lot of planning due to the game meant for touching and such. Not as simple as mouse and click and WASD to move when it comes to gameplay.)
- Grabbing + jerking mechanics
- Vive controller support for hand gestures
- Moving around the space
- Fixing physics on body parts (this will take a LONG time to perfect, it's not as simple but we'll surely get there!)
- More characters (all of which will be my OCs and commissioned 3D models. I personally do not support ripping models from other places whatsoever.)
I'll edit this comment if there's anything I've missed
But thank you all for your feedback on this very, very early tiny demo I wanted to preview for others! :) may more boofness come soon!

Good to hear it runs fine on WMR! And yes, performance is something I'll be looking into - optimization hasn't been touched yet, but will do so as things progress. As for getting windowed mode, I'll note that down for the next update, thank you for bringing it up! Thank you for the feedback, everything helps towards making this better :)
Werethrope
2019-02-01 11:43:09 +0000 UTC
Just wanted to say that it runs fine on a WMR headset, no weirdness detected. Performance is kind of bad, won't lie haha, getting around 25fps on a 1060. Diving into the config file yield no noticeable increase in performance but the "effects quality" settings makes the boof disappear if it's not set to 3. I also think it would have better if the game launched in windowed mode on desktop, it's something I weren't able to change in the config. Other than that, it's a pretty awesome thing that you're making here. Great work!

Oh wow, that's a first! But no, not just yet - I've yet to implement in reduction for settings for this initial demo. Looking to add it in for the next version, though!

Is there a way to reduce settings? It managed to run out of vram on my RTX 2070.

2019-02-01 08:40:41 +0000 UTC
I'll look into smoothing out the hand gestures, thank you for the feedback! :) could I ask what feels weird though on it? Is it just too fast, too responsive/sensitive to not having certain fingers on certain buttons, or too many different combinations? And the physics is still being worked on as mentioned in the description, so pushing in chest/rump will take a bit of time to polish till then :)
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:40:22 +0000 UTC
Physics isn't perfect just yet as mentioned in the description, so there'll be bugs where parts could be twitchy due to that :) I could let players adjust their height later on, sure! Right now the player and model is to actual real-life scale (Were is 9'2ft tall). The grab feature is still being worked on, not quite there yet to demo but hopefully soon!
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:37:38 +0000 UTC
Will look into that as we go! :)
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:32:15 +0000 UTC
Ahah, apologies for that! It's not optimized just yet to have a smaller file size, will be something I'll look into after the gameplay mechanics have been prototyped to work :) for now, patience it is!
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:26:24 +0000 UTC
Yes - It works with the Vive, but the hand gestures doesn't work with the vive controllers yet. Future release, sure! I don't have a Vive kit so it'll be a bit difficult to get it to feel polished for Vive controllers just yet :)
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:25:05 +0000 UTC
That's something I still need to fix when it comes to physics, still looking into that quite a lot ever since I started the project but here's hoping! :) Thank you so much, looking forward to progressing this too myself!
Werethrope
2019-02-01 08:23:58 +0000 UTC
I'm taking a look into optimization after getting the base game mechanics done, and will look into smoothing out the hand gestures as we go :) thank you for the feedback, very helpful for polishing down the road!

pretty cool, but the hand gestures, are a bit weird on the oculus (which im using, and its a tiny but weird to push into his chest and ass cheeks, but over all, its pretty good, cant wait to see more

Maybe draw a funny & "boof" scene .
2019-02-01 02:04:47 +0000 UTC
I enjoyed playing this. Now I don't know if it was my rig, but it was a little...twitchy? I like that you could poke are certain parts of him and make them jiggly x3 I do however I also felt reeeeeealy short. I would suggest making the boofy boi just a tad be shorter if you could. I myself am not too short (5ft 9in). Another suggestion would be maybe add some grab points to his tail and possibly his...bits to make then easier to move around. Though at the same time I liked that I had to actually brush the tail out of the way.

he said it's coming soon, so it could be up in a few days or 1 day if you're lucky. Coding keyboard and mouse is a bit easy, and I wish he did this first because i didn't know VR was mandatory. It's not his fault, but it's a weird choice because a lot people don't have VR and were not prepared, especially me! lol

There's Gear VR. It's powered by Oculus. It could be easily ported. Unless otherwise.

2019-01-31 07:32:42 +0000 UTC
Very solid so far, runs a little bit choppy on my computer but fine otherwise. Some of the hand gestures are a bit touchy and snap back and forth when my hands are resting on the controllers (oculus) but super solid start. Excited to see what comes next.

2019-01-31 05:50:01 +0000 UTC
Should work on the Vive, do let me know if it doesn't though! Something I can possibly take a look into :) at the very least I think you can look around and get your hands moving, but i don't think there's any hand gestures as it would on the Oculus touch.

2019-01-31 05:36:49 +0000 UTC
Unfortunately that's beyond me to know what I could do to optimize/lower just yet, but it wouldn't hurt to touch upon having low/med/high settings and such. I'll note that down, but I cannot guarantee that it'll be done with the current skillset I have in programming!
