The Magician's New Assistant, my first Youtube video in a long time, is now online! And you can watch it here!
Yes, I did use AI, but this thing is the exact opposite of "AI slop." It's more like an AI souffle, with every detail lovingly fussed over. I spent days and days trying to make it perfect, putting in at least as much work as I used to do on my old video edits. It was challenging but fun, and this way of working opens up new ideas I never could've done by editing existing footage. I hope you love it!

I'm hardly AI's biggest cheerleader but it can be a very useful tool, the genie is out of the bottle and I think it'd be pointless to go back to my old ways of doing things. With my old edits, I was very limited using existing footage. There was a lot I simply couldn't do. There were also endless copyright strikes, some of my best videos got taken down and I couldn't post them anywhere. Using AI (sometimes in combo with existing footage) offers a lot more freedom in various ways. And as for using resources, I don't dismiss that but my understanding is that some of the bad news is overblown by people who just hate AI. I've heard that a few hours of AI use is comparable to the same time you'd spend watching Netflix. It isn't that AI itself is such a drain, it's that SO MANY people are using it. So I don't feel a lot more guilty using AI than I'd feel for watching a streaming show. We're all slowly killing the planet, no matter what we do. No ethical consumption, and all that.
