Welcome to the Dark Side...

Prepare to play through the demo level again but in an entirely different way.. as Dark Kyle! You've turned to the dark side, now anything goes, strangulation is fun, smashing helpless stormtroopers into the floor is fair game, and using the force to push them off ledges to their doom is a totally legit pass-time! Wreak whatever havoc you want.. no-one is really going to be able to stop you!

Once again a huge thank-you to ALL our patrons; your support is as always very much appreciated, and seeing all the positive comments for the previous in-development drops and videos is always very encouraging. We included all the "Beef Tier" gold patrons at the time the release was cut, so once again, if your name isn't present, our sincere apologies, but we have to take a cut at some point in advance of the release or we would be constantly updating. Stick around and once this is finished and is a public release your name (and generosity) will be there for everyone to see!

Important: Please read...

MOST IMPORTANT: Please delete the Demo folder entirely as it will contain outdated configuration and will likely impair your experience if left as it is (installing and running the game will recreate it). You also want to start a new game to ensure everything is set up correctly.

So.. back onto the details of this release, there are several differences between this and the last, which it will help you a great deal to know about in advance:

1. Weapon/Gadget/Stance selector: This is invoked by pressing the right grip button on your dominant hand, you then point at the item you wish to use and release the grip trigger. To cycle between selector modes press left and right on the thumbstick. Stance selection will only be available when you have the lightsaber equipped.

2. Force Power selector: To show that we do listen to our patrons (and they do have genuinely good ideas) the force selector is on the same hand that the force powers are used from. Your "off-hand" is entirely responsible for aiming, triggering and committing heinous force-based crimes. Invoke the selector in the same fashion using the off-hand grip. However, in order to accommodate two handed weapon holding, if the controllers are close together pressing grip will hold the weapon in two hands, further apart will invoke the selector.

3. Lightsabers are now thrown by pressing the trigger and making a throwing motion. As long as you continue to hold the trigger down (and have sufficient remaining force power) the saber will stay away.. once you release the trigger (or run out of force) it will return.

4. The lightsaber can be switched off/on using the B button.

5. Lots of VR settings (smooth/snap turn, HMD/Hand oriented movement, and more) can be found in the Controls menu now. Many thanks to our friend MuadDib for implementing menu changes! Hopefully the days of editing config files are behind you, and if it hadn't been for MuadDib you would still need to!

6. In-game cut scenes can now be skipped (I bet you are relieved to hear that!), just click the dominant hand thumbstick (the Use button).

7. The Reborn AI has been returned to almost vanilla settings, though he moves a little bit slower so you can just about run away if you get into a panic.

8. You can seamlessly switch between 1st and 3rd person when the lightsaber is equipped by pressing forward/back on the thumbstick of your weapon hand. Please be aware that 3rd person has had very little attention, so expect plenty of bugs (this is still very much in-development).

Use the Force Kyle..

When you use the force, as mentioned above, you aim using your off-hand (which you will notice is now actually a hand in the game).. to give you an idea of what a terrible shot you are, there will be a brief indication of the direction your force power went.. this is to allow you to become accustomed to using it. Once you feel you are comfortable aiming, you can disable the Force Power Direction Hint in the menu (or just leave it on, it's quite subtle).

The Speed force power previously caused a huge change to the FOV, which is cool playing flatscreen, but a vom-fest in VR.. so now it will briefly and smoothly change the FOV and then set it back to normal, to let you know that the speed force is active, and will do the same when it finishes. If this is too much for you you can switch it off in the same menu.

We hope you enjoy replaying this as much as we have creating it, it has been a lot of hard work in every spare minute of time available, but it is definitely feeling worth it.

Final thing...

We think this will be the last of the in-development updates that is constrained to the demo level only. The next big in-development update will be in a few weeks time (due to other team engagements and the desperate need for some sleep) and should allow you to play the actual game. A release I imagine everyone is very much looking forward to!

For now, Enjoy!

Nice

The next development release (hopefully very soon!) will allow you to not only play the main campaign, but also use mods. There's a got extended cheat menu mod that has some empty levels and spawn NPCs. So you could practice on them before starting the main game

Can you make a demo that's purpose is to practice force abilities and such?

You're welcome. :)

That's brilliant! Thanks for finding that, being able to reproduce the issue makes it a lot easier to fix it!

(Bug/Glitch)I figured something out. When you start the demo and change from pistol to saber press b as soon as you get the saber. You will see the bugs I'm talking about. Saber throw at random. Die and respawn with pistol charging... The only way to discharge pistol is by pressing b.

ArturiousMaximus

The saber throw without pressing buttons doesn't happen often. Also sometimes seen my pistol being charged for no reason and it won't shoot unless I press b. These to glitches may be related.

ArturiousMaximus

Oh.. that's a bit strange.. that doesn't fit my theory 😬

Also without pressing any buttons the saber is thrown.

ArturiousMaximus

Thanks for the update, that's good to know, and I have a suspicion as to the cause of the apparent lack of effective of the blade and the B button suddenly being able to throw the saber.. am hoping it is already fixed with a recent change (not yet released) so should be working for the next big update..

Dueled today on master was able to kill sith and last night I couldn't for some reason... A glitch I noticed was that sometimes pressing b would throw lightsaber. I have difficulty going to the menu to select saber style. Overall this game is amazing 🤩.

ArturiousMaximus

Jedi vs Sith light saber battles are definitely bugged on master mode and maybe other modes as well? Can't seem to hit them even when they don't have saber in hand (when they throw saber at me). Only saying this to shed light on the issue.

Third time playing through this demo now, but the first with this specific 0.2.4 update. No kidding, it's the coolest experience I've ever had in VR... New weapon selector is a big improvement, makes it really easy to switch between weapons quickly (sometimes have a bit of trouble accessing the weapons at the bottom of the wheel though?). The slow motion effect is a big reason why this weapon selector works so well. The Force powers are incredibly cool in VR, and again really easy to select now. In regards to the fight at the end, it seems pretty well balanced in terms of difficulty (on Padawan), although I cheesed it a little by just zapping him with force lightning (which he seemingly can't deflect?) Throwing the saber isn't something I've played around with too much yet... When it comes to collecting armour, sometimes I find that I need to stand in a very specific position and aim in a certain place to get it work, which can be a bit finicky, but it's not a major issue. Those are the things I wanted to bring up, but yeah... this demo is absolutely mindblowing, undoubtedly the best thing I've ever tried in VR. Will continue to subscribe to you guys throughout the dev process, can't wait for the full game in a few weeks/months. Thanks for everything you're doing!

You can disable the fov effect with the speed force in the menu (controls -> Force Powers). It needs a bit more work really..

Wow, that zoom effect when applying speed force is a bit too strong. Otherwise - sooo much better than the first version, especially throwing the saner feels much more natural. Though I noticed enabling drone gadget changes control scheme to the old one

probably just a placeholder for now, but I find myself accidentally selecting 3rd person being on the analog. I also understand we have limited buttons

If I understand you are asking why there is a 3rd person camera? This is for people that prefer saber poses and doing saber duels in 3rd person(as they are quite different - and closer to pancake). To change to left handed mode you have to edit the config manually with vr_control_scheme "10". However the off hand is reversed so not really recommended at the moment. .

Try deleting the whole JKQuest folder (it will remove your saves), so that you are picking the up the latest config. Also make sure you don't go from sitting to standing after launching the game (or alternatively have the guardian off - as this causes issues)

So this version was my first playthrough of the game; I’d have to say you’ve really outdone yourself. Very fun, once I figured the controls out I played through it a few times. I have only two questions; why the 3rd person camera and Is there a control scheme that lets you use the force with your right hand?

This is absolutely awesome, it's like a dream come true, I have played countless hours of this game in my life and still love it. I have a question about this update, it seems like I am a giant compared to the NPCS and the world, iirc the last release didn't had this problem. Is this configurable?
