[FULL REACTION] Tora Tora Tora (1970)

This is one of my favourite movie, and my favourite war movie ever. In my opinion the movie "Pearl Harbour" is a complete waste of time.

A bit late to the party but I like this one a great deal more than pearl harbor. That ones a fictional story inside a real event, this one is very accurate almost qualifying as a docudrama. One of my favorite aspects is it explores the politics and events leading up to the attack. A great followup, almost a necessity is midway. I recommend both the 1976 and the 2019 versions as both have pros and cons. Like tora tora tora you get a very good dual perspective of both sides of the battle and good insite into the strategy of naval warfare in the pacific.

Pearl Harbor is a good Hollywood love story set during the Pearl Harbor attack time period. Tora Tora Tora is unique

This movie is better than "Pearl Harbor" (2001) which I suggest to skip. Agree that The Hunt for Red October is good. As you likely deciphered, Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) came out only 29 years after the Pearl Harbor attack. Yamamoto: "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant." You were attentive to the info in the movie -- that's how I always was when watching this movie years ago -- absorbed. There is valid criticism of this movie that "the film's clinical approach ... signifies little feeling." Yet, while the movie could use some more drama to reach a larger audience, to me the presentation of facts themselves is the drama. As you may know, Part one (the first episode) of The Pacific series you reacted to takes place weeks after the Pearl Harbor attack. Part two (the second episode) takes place (in October 1942) 10 months after the Pearl Harbor attack. Jason Robards who played Army General Walter C. Short was also Ben Bradlee (WaPo editor) in "All the President's Men" (1976). James Whitmore who played Admiral William F. Halsey (smoking cigar) was also Brooks the old librarian who had the bird and hung himself in "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994).

I think most people generally enjoyed the 2001 film Pearl Harbor, with the exception of some survivors and veterans of the attacks who found the film extremely distasteful. A pilot portrayed in the film, Kenneth Taylor, described it as, โ€œa piece of trash; over-sensationalized and completely distorted.โ€ I, personally, think Tora! Tora! Tora! was a more accurate depiction of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and that there were a lot of inaccuracies in the 2001 film, but I still enjoyed watching them both. But, to each their own, I think you would have to watch them both to decide on which one you like better.
