[FULL REACTION] Glory (1989)

The bombardment scenes on the 3rd day of the battle is the largest group of working 1860's cannon in any film or documentary.

Before the assault on Fort Wagoner, the reporter tells Shaw the news of the defeat of Confederate General Lee in Pennsylvania. This is the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863. There is an excellent movie about this with an all-star cast of top actors. "Gettysburg" (1993) A few years later, the same production staff did another movie about the Cuba campaign during the 1898 Spanish-American War: "Rough Riders" (1997)

It was a collab, so another creator had it! He ended up deleting all his footage so I do not have it sadly :((

Hi Centane, where is your full reaction for Interstellar? I can't find it.

"I love the 54th." Denzel Washington won his first Best Actor Oscar. His acting is incredible throughout. One highlight is the scene of Trip being flogged for desertion. Another is I found Denzel's acting with Trip's 'speech' the night before they charged the fort as convincing. In Trip giving comments before the group that night, Denzel really captured a believable demeanor and nuances. You indicated that was your favorite scene. Mine too. When Colonel Shaw offered Trip the honor of carrying the colors (flag), Trip was prophetic in questioning carrying the flag. Black people were treated like shit for the next 100 years, especially in the Jim Crow South -- and arguably issues of privilege still exist. Yet, as Colonel Shaw noted, you don't get anything if you lose. The three amendments (13th, 14th, 15th) to the US Constitution that came out of the Union (the North) winning the Civil War have had impact. That was emotional when Trip picked up the flag. For an excellent Civil War movie, I recommend "Lincoln" (2012) (nominated for 12 Oscars, the most of that year). Daniel Day-Lewis won Best Actor Oscar. Daniel Day-Lewis completely transformed himself into President Lincoln.

What a great movie! I have seen it about six times and could probably watch it another six times. I also love war films, so please keep them coming. I live in Maryland, surrounded by all the famous Civil War locations, and I have been to most of them.

One of those great ones that holds up over time even though it's 35 years old. If you like civil war era, a few years later gettysburg is another good one (avoid the extended cut). It was a Ted Turner passion project, but one of the cool parts is beyond the main focused characters, the entirety of the extras are all civil war reenactors that showed up with their own clothes gear etc even going as far as making camp for the filming.

Edward Zwick, same director to Legends of the Fall. Now you know his work. 🤗 happy you liked
