Clement was apprehensive to use him, and for me, he was getting wasted in the B team. The one person who really seemed to understand how much talent the boy had was Ferguson, maybe because he was a similar player. Martin was too busy strutting about like a show pony to take any interest in the player, and he now looks like he’s going to walk out the door. Rohl isn’t going to get to wrk with him, which is a real shame because I think he’s the type of person who can do something with him. I’d prefer if they were focused on getting in a new DoF before the transfer window. We need an experienced negotiator to be working round the clock on these deals. What can’t change is the players and profiles identified by the manager in the time he has to assess the squad. The chairman can’t handle these things on a part-time basis in the US. Either get someone in or spend a permanent period over here till the work on transfers is complete. Richard’s Gough was a different animal to anything we now have at the club. He was absolutely ruthless as a captain, and nobody escaped him if he thought you weren’t pulling your weight. They broke the mould after him.
