3/9/22 - Weekly Update - "Looks Like Hell To Me"
Added 2022-03-09 23:01:23 +0000 UTCThe most recent chapter of Quaranteam: Phil's Tale seems to have ruffled a few feathers, including a person who accused me of demonizing anyone I don't agree with in their exit survey, which is a hilariously bad faith reading of my fiction, and, in fact, a complete misreading of the most recent chapter. (Hell, the people who look the best in the most recent chapters of PT are the goddamn Air Force so I'm not sure how you call that in any way a liberal tilt. Also, the thing people are bitching about is just a second perspective of a scene that came out almost two years ago, so... did you just not read the original?) But I'm just going to laugh them off and carry on doing what I'm doing. I was going to write more, but honestly, it's not worth the time. Just know that I won't give it another thought, because I can handle criticism apparently far better than these snowflakes can. (Insert the Deadwood "Well...bye" meme here.)
Overall, I was very happy with the chapter, as it allowed me to revisit parts of the early days of QT with a very different perspective on things, as clearly what Andy thought was happening and what Phil knew was happening are worlds apart. I'm also trying to drill down a little on the core conflict of Phil's professional life, which is "Science: We're All About Could'a And Not About Should'a," to quote the great Patton Oswalt, and it should be clear that, like Phil, my opinions are torn a great deal on the matter. On one hand, science enables us to do a lot of great and wonderous things, but on the other hand, sometimes things you can do are not things you should do, and it can be incredibly tricky to find where on that line you are. What Phil was developing could save millions of lives, but at what cost, and how that does kind of stress weigh on a person?
I started work on the next chapter of Brewster's Brood today, and that'll be out Friday, 3/11, with general strong confidence. It'll also have the one-page bio for the tier 3s and up, as the character who won that poll will get their sex scene in this upcoming episode. Poor Max is exhausted, but it looks like he's not getting out of Ironwood without at least one more encounter, even if they have to roll him home in a cart.
Right now, I'm thinking I may do a new chapter of Threadbinders for next Tuesday 3/15, but that's not completely settled yet. It's either that or more Janus Coin. We'll see what's striking my fancy once I'm on the other side of BB11.
For those of you who were interested in epubs, I'm trying do to the first 10 of BB again and take a look, see if it works for you. I'm poking away at this a bit at a time. It'll be attached to the last BB post within a couple of minutes.
And, to wrap up, for those of you who think I'm pure Californian, this week's musician is a band from Nashville, who have a wonderful mix of country, bluegrass, rock and soul. They're called Lucero and I saw them opening for Frank Turner a while back. Worth your time to check out. See everyone again on Friday.

2022-03-10 02:32:31 +0000 UTCAgree with others don’t like the story they can go fuck off. On the epub, it looks really good, I’m on vacation right now so I can’t load it up in Sigil to check structure but nothing apparent jumps out. Thank you so much for this. Much easier to read on kindle that way.

2022-03-09 23:54:55 +0000 UTCOh… and for my money, I would prefer to see another JC rather than Threadbinders, but that’s just my own genre bias

2022-03-09 23:26:06 +0000 UTCNot heard of Lucero, or this album, but i like their sound. There’s a link to the full album a little down on the YouTube list, I’ll queue that up tonight while I’m working on my own novel.

2022-03-09 23:17:50 +0000 UTCWell I don't know who has been going off on you, but if they don't like the story...they shouldn't read it. And if they won't enjoy the story because they think the author has a certain bias...well that's on them, not you. This is fiction, not fact, so any opinions you hold as a person that transfer to characters, and any character traits you have just made up...all of that is irrelevant. IT. IS. A. STORY.
