Weekly Update - 3/5/25

Next thing to drop will be the next Brewster's Brood chapter, hopefully today, worst case scenario tomorrow. I'm midway through it now, and it's humming along at a decent clip. I'm going to keep the news update relatively short, so I can get back to writing. My parents were in town the last couple of days - their first time in California in over a decade and a half - and so I was playing tour guide some, letting them meet the local friends and crew here. But all visits must end, and work must continue. Friday's target is to have last month's Pack off to its commissioner, and to have a QT2 chapter for you. Aggressive, maybe, but we'll see what we can do. Maybe the QT2 slips to Saturday or Sunday. I'd hopped back and forth between working on the Pack chapter and the BB chapter when my folks were around, so there's progress in both, but neither's ready for release yet.

For Tier 4s and up, the What Am I Writing? poll is literally one vote difference between first and second place right now, so if you've been thinking about kicking up to the voting tier, you could literally flip the script, if you wanted to. Only a few days left in that poll!

In terms of 'What's Dev watching,' I can't tell you how happy I am that Reacher's back, and it continues to be exactly what I want it to be. Stephen King once described it as 'manfiction,' or the dude equivalent of 'chick lit.' A drifter of a guy travels from place to place, stumbles into trouble and gets his way out of it, usually with a combination of smarts, punching and shooting. No lies, the series was like, ten books in when I saw Stephen King's comment about it, and I figured, if he liked them, they had to be worth checking out. I own ALL of them, and have read probably 4/5ths of them, as I like having things waiting for me to read. The first Reacher movie, Tom Cruise got the vibe right, but he just doesn't have Reacher's physicality - the dude is a mountain of muscle, which is why most people think he isn't smart. The first two seasons of Amazon's show were great, and I'm already eagerly awaiting the rest of season 3 to drop.

I've also been enjoying season 2 of Severance, even if the series does have the WTF factor cranked up a long, long, long ways. The next season of Slow Horses should be along soon enough, and Leverage: Redemption season 3 is scheduled to start on April 17th, and everyone knows I'm a big, big fan of that show. So even if the world is falling apart, there's good stuff to watch and listen to.

Speaking of listening to, I've talked post-rock bands before, but I was more than a little nervous when I heard This Will Destroy You was splitting up into two distinctive projects, but both keeping the name. Well, one of them, You, Infinite, has just put out their first album, and the damn thing is great. I've been doing a lot of writing to it lately, so you should check it out. Here's a video from them:

you, infinite - Throughlines

 That's been me chatting long enough - back to the word mines. Here's the upcoming public schedule for the next month or so: 3/8 - Before The Storm 13; 3/15 - CARP 10; 3/22 - QT2:29; 3/29 - QT:UM 4; 4/5 - Smokeland Slumdance 1, QT:PT 21.

Brace yourselves, folks. It's getting weird out there, but I believe there's good in most of us.

Looking forward to QT:2 chapter to be released in time for my next treatment. Thanks. And as always, Stay safe Nf well. Transmitted from The USS CARNES.
