Weekly Update - 8/6/25
Added 2025-08-06 22:53:03 +0000 UTCI know it looks like nothing's been happening, but we're getting caught up behind the scenes. I got next chapter of A Pack Of His Own off to its commissioner last night (which ended up changing my expectation of this arc being three chapters into... maybe a bit more...) although that took some serious work hammering at it. A new chapter of QT: Unbroken Mold will be dropping soon, once I finish with the notes from the commissioner. As I work on that, I'm also working the next chapter for them. The commissioners have been titanically patient with me, as I pushed through my July of travels, to which they have my immense thank yous.
When we were at Red Rocks, my friend was a little concerned about my health because I couldn't sprint up 25 flights of stairs, which, ha! But to be fair, I've been neglecting my walking for much of the last year, so I'm trying to get back in the habit of spending like half an hour each night walking around the block, just for starters. I've done it the last two nights in a row, and that's a start, but now I just need to keep at it.
About ten years ago, I got really fit for a while, through a combination of exercise and diet, and I know I'm probably still capable of that, except I was also a bit miserable back then. I had a girlfriend who, according to my friends, was nothing short of stunningly beautiful, although she was, if I'M being honest, also a hot mess, fresh off an ugly, contentious divorce, dabbling in polyamory, dating a bunch of guys (myself included) in an attempt to find something, anything, that made her happy. Needless to say, she and I didn't last long. She accused me of getting too emotionally invested in the relationship too early (which was fair) and I accused her of having the worst communication/interpersonal skills out of any adult I'd ever met (which was also fair). Haven't seen her in a decade, but I hear she's doing well. I think I'm going to try pushing back towards that again, but this time with an eye towards sustainability and not hating daily life. (Not gonna lie, salads five days a week made me the most miserable I'd ever been.) There's gonna be some stumbles along the way, I expect, but we'll do our best to keep it going.
Once I finish the next QTUM for its commissioner, I think I'm gonna call an audible and come back and write QT2:45. Keep in mind, this one I'm definitely going to want to run past the writer's room, because it's going to do some very big things (and sets up a lot of B3), so while I'd love to tell you I'll have it out Friday, it's probably going to be Saturday or Sunday. We'll see how it goes. And nobody best @ me about cliffhangers on this one. I know, alright?! I get it! But a story's gotta be told, and we're nearing the end of Book 2 (2:45, then an intermission, then 46-50 and that's it!), and this is the middle book of a trilogy, essentially, so, y'know, I gotta tell ya, if you're expecting resolution to aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanything, you are in the wrong house at the wrong time talking to the wrong guy. You want answers, but I just got thousands more questions for ya. This is Empire, man. It's gonna end on a bit of a down ending. But B3 will be starting not long after.
The plan remains the same - B3 will be the last book in Andy's story, and we'll probably have 1 book to close out the series from Matty's perspective, although we'll see how that goes. That idea's been worming around in my brain long enough, it might expand into a trilogy, but I think I'm gonna try real hard to keep it to just one book. Of course, my ideas of how to control a story have always worked completely and totally. scoff scoff
Anyway, that's where we are, and everyone's feedback and patience is appreciated. I spent a bit of time reviewing some of the upcoming QT-spinoff chapters, helping people improve their writing, so those of you who have been asking where many of the spinoff writers are, most of them are working, some of them are caught up in their own lives, but there's more content coming, we promise.
And, to close, what's coming publicly over the next month or so - 8/9 - QTUM 6, QT2:35; 8/16 - QTPT 23; 8/23 - Pack 16; 8/30 - Captains' Days 5.

2025-08-07 08:30:49 +0000 UTCCP, keep up with the walking. Following Dr's orders, taking my meds, and making all my appointments. Good news, according to a recent MRI, the Stage 1 cancer in my lung and a spot in my brain is no longer there. 😁 Happy Days aboard the USS Carnes. As always, Stay Safe & Well.
