What do they Do?

Response Units do just that, respond.

A Case Study in Application.

Sector xx had 895 Combat Units.

They require 926 to be at full strength

885 to be operationally efficient (pulling in enough Neon Dark).

They had a patrol attacked with 5 expended.

A full squad (12) on standby was deployed to help hold the area

Another attack occurred and they needed more units from Standby to assist to hold the area.

Units were brought from other operational duties (Azog hunts etc) to fill standby duty.

At the end of the day they had lost 21 combat units and cancelled 2 Azologoth extraction missions.

Their total operating numbers fell below the Op efficiency threshold and they had a week long wait for new units from HQ sectors.

3 months later they had 889 units and another attack occurred.

3 units were expended however because they were near the operating threshold, response units were deployed.

Half a squad(6) of Response Units engaged with the attackers, assuming all of the sacrifice required for the skirm. All six were expended with the rest of the standards intact.

The short....highly expendable units to go down in place of standards when numbers are tight.

Comments

Cheap to train, easy to replace, and don't consume as many rations as Standards. Perfect for lengthy battles of attrition. But conversely, not as filling for Azog feed. Standards are still the best nutrition.
