Black Faction has been adjusting their combat operations (their whole existence) to account for performance variations in combat units.
What does this look like?
Aptitude test scores are often used to categorize candidates based on their potential or capability in certain areas. For a combat unit selection process, scores would likely range from a baseline "acceptable" level, which indicates minimum competence, to an "elite" level, showing superior performance. Hereโs how scoring might be broken down into categories:
Outcome Score Categories:
Marginal (Below 50%):
Outcome: Fail or Not Selected
Description: The candidate did not meet the minimum performance criteria. They are likely unfit for the role based on aptitude, physical ability, or both.
Recommendation: Resolve issues or recruit into surge/stasis sector.
Passable (50% - 60%):
Outcome: Low-Performing but Viable
Description: The candidate meets the minimum standard but shows weaknesses in key areas. They are suitable to perform the task of a Standard Combat Unit.
Recommendation: Provision of training completion deploy to HQ sector
Average (60% - 70%):
Outcome: Standard/Competent
Description: The candidate performs at an acceptable level. They have demonstrated sufficient aptitude and ability to perform in a standard combat unit role.
Recommendation: Ready for training with little additional oversight.
High-Performing (70% - 85%):
Outcome: Above Average/Advanced
Description: The candidate demonstrates a high level of aptitude and physical capability. They are likely to succeed in demanding situations and may have leadership potential in the future.
Recommendation: Prioritized for advanced roles and leadership pathways.
Elite (85% - 100%):
Outcome: Superior/Elite
Description: The candidate exhibits exceptional skill, aptitude, and performance. They can be considered for elite roles, special operations, or leadership within the combat operations.
Recommendation: Enter into Elite Combat Unit Training Program.

Specific Examples of Outcomes:
Marginal/Fail: Candidate took 14+ minutes to complete a 2 km run, missed more than half of the problem-solving questions, and struggled with abstract reasoning. Outcome: Unfit for selection.
Passable: Completed the 2 km run in 13 minutes, scored 55% on mechanical reasoning, and solved some abstract problems correctly but showed weaknesses in leadership or tactical reasoning. Outcome: Viable but requires further training.
Elite: Candidate completed the 2 km run in 8:30, scored above 85% on numerical, mechanical, and spatial reasoning, and demonstrated advanced problem-solving skills. Outcome: Fast-tracked to elite training or specialist units.
