The obstacles that are placed in front of you are placed by you. This is something that I had to learn over the past several years as I tried to figure out what in this life makes me happy. I've had my very highs and I've had my very lows. And when I reflect back on my very lows, I've realized that the reason why I was so sad, depressed or low, was not because of anyone else, it was because of me!

I put myself there. No one else did. We are all responsible for our own selves. For instance, I had a friend who wanted to be an actor. He wanted to move to L.A. and I was so excited that my friend was going to be in the city with me. One day, one of his own friends told him that he would never make it in Hollywood because he doesn't have the right look and there would be no roles for him. My friend reconsidered his move to L.A. and stayed in Chicago.

I often think about that and how my friend ACCEPTED this idea from another person that he would not be able to get a role or star in a movie, show, project, etc. And we are in the age where there is SO MUCH media content. Opportunities are abundant and yet my friend decided to believe someone, who he is not friends with anymore by the way, and instead he should have believed in himself.

This is what I mean when I say the obstacles that are placed in front of you are placed by you. My friend could have easily said 'Oh, thank you for your feedback but I have a dream and I'm going to pursue it' or he could have said 'Fuck off'. Either way works. But he didn't. And this is what I want you to always remember from now on. When people give you their feedback or opinions, acknowledge it and say thank you but don't accept it. You are who you are because of your thoughts, intentions, imagination and dreams. And they all come to light as long as you respect and love yourself and others.
