I had to sign up when I saw you'd done this! Sleuth is one of my favourite films, it's just so fun to watch; both Olivier and Caine (and "Alec Cawthorne" as Doppler) give it their all, and seeing Wyke go from apparently avuncular and ridiculous to the elitist, racist Little Englander beneath the surface is utterly compelling.
It's a shame it's not more well-known. I only found out about it because it's referenced in "This Charming Man" by The Smiths. There's a remake with Caine as Wyke and Jude Law as Milo from 2007 but from what I recall it's utterly godawful.
