Sometimes I think that Ari Aster subconsciously punishes his audience for staying to the end of his movies.

2025-10-11 17:24:10 +0000 UTCI would say this about your reaction to the finale… all cults are about control. Whether Paimon was real or not, all cults at the end of the day are about control. They all damage their members, the families of their members and their communities. The only difference between this cult, and any other cult is that Paimon is real, presumably has actually been giving them the things they want. There’s also real mythology to Paimon, like they didn’t make him up for this. They’re following some real old world lore and the symbols in things they say about him, including seeking knowledge and wealth are part of his mythos. Shockingly Toni Collette was snubbed by every major awards group for her performance in this which I think is a total fucking shame. She’s leaving it all out there and only got genre specific awards from small magazines and the like. Also shockingly… not the most upsetting thing Ari Aster has made.

2025-10-08 03:27:57 +0000 UTCThe previews on this focused very much on Charlie, and she was one of the top billed actors, so the car accident was quite surprising in that way as well. Also, it was fun to see in the theater, as different people saw (and reacted to) the mother on the ceiling at different times.
