Discussion! Two Questions for you.

I have updated my links and queue, and there's two items in queue I want to toss up for Discussion.

#1

The Elephant in the Room with the Noble Bard and the Banneret Fighter is the spectre of the Warlord that looms over them. Do people have an interest in a 5e Warlord? Would that be a worth while thing to tackle in the future? I think this could be an interesting slot for another class for 5e that would have broad enough general demand to get the widespread level of playtesting I'd like to see for a new class.

Another new Class idea that I've been tossing around is a Wisdom full caster; the Folk Caster Archetype; something that could be home to Shamans, Witches, Witch Doctors, and the like. I think at some point I will tackle one or both of these new class ideas, but a new class takes a lot of doing, so I'm looking for input on what people are interested in.

#2

The poll is pretty heavily in favor of retiring the Mindsmith. I have a couple ideas in mind for what might replace it, but now would be the time to forward toss ideas into the ring (I will probably toss any ideas here and any ideas I have into a poll down the road to see what people are interested in).

Obviously work on the Artificer will continue - that's what most of you came here for, and that's something that's not going anywhere :)

> Just some possible new Artificer ideas, although waiting to see what direction the WotC artificer goes is definitely a good idea. I figure this one will be the last pre-WotC one. Then we'll see what they do. Some good ideas there. While I think (1) and (2) are both good ideas, I feel they'd tend to get a bit too specialized - I feel like when you get too specialized it starts infringing on what upgrades you can make for other subclasses. Really like (3) though, and that puts a better concept to a vague idea I've toyed around with before. Will definitely keep you all posted on the Warlord development. I wouldn't have started it if I didn't think I had a good idea how to make it work, but there's a lot of flesh out in the framework for a new class, especially as I want some solid variance on its subclasses.

Love the warlord idea, there's a few warlord homebrews running around that I like, but none that I love. Just some possible new Artificer ideas, although waiting to see what direction the WotC artificer goes is definitely a good idea. 1) Portalsmith: Focused on space and teleportation effects, and maybe some time effects. A lot of portals. A little Rick from Rick and Morty, a little Dr Who. Gets a lot of repositioning effects, maybe a rope trick item. Misty step and dimension door style effects. Can build teleportation circles, and gets access to upgrades like teleport and Magnificent Mansion at higher levels. 2) Ectosmith: Ghostbuster styled artificer, with radiant damage weapons and effects that target undead and ethereal creatures. 3) Elementsmith: More of a classic Eberron feel, binds elementals and elemental energy to weapons, armor, and special one shot items. Focus on granting fire/cold/thunder/lightning/acid damage, resistances to same, and elemental themed one shot effects. Gadgetsmith-like ability to change upgrades at long rest (flavored as binding new elementals) might make sense here.

The Infusionsmith was originally more support oriented, but it sort of veered into a pseudo martial class over time (as that's the direction most of the players seemed to take it). Definitely room for a more supporty subclass. We'll see. Hopefully will have an update for you guys soon on that, targeting sometime around the end of the month. Regarding the Help action - that's probably something that'd fit into the new Warlord quite possible, but its currently a tangle of a lot of mechanics ideas right now, so not sure which will float to the top. Always love to hear the ideas, input and feedback! Helps get a sense of where people are and people want to see :)

For #1 I would love to see an attempt at a Warlord class, but I am an absolute sucker for non-heal based support classes, so that's just my two cents. #2 I think a subclass that focuses more on support would be a good addition, and would give a nice choice between two subclasses rather than only potionsmith (this isn't a criticism of potionsmith, that subclass is wonderful!). If you were to go the more support route, I would say the subclass should leave healing to the potionsmith, and focus more on mitigating/preventing damage by hindering enemy movement and attacks, providing buffs to allies, and such. The theme could really fit in well a runescriber flavor. One bit of unexplored terrain you could possibly think about is giving the class a variation of the "help" action to use on allied spells.
