Debated if I should post this in the current state, as I feel like it there's a chance it'll damage the faith people put in me to see it like this... but transparency and feedback are sort of pillars of my design process, so I'll trust you all to take it as what it is☺
This is my mechanics testing build so I can start number crunching all my basic underlying assumptions.
This is not a playable build, but should show many of the assumptions I talked about in action.
Short Rest. I've decided to move forward with Psion as a short rest class for now. If you dig into the math, it is very similar to Warlock's Pact Magic. It is obviously quite a bit more powerful due to flexibility though (as represented by a d6 hit die). This helps differentiate it from Sorcerer/Wizard, and plays into it's playstyle of having interesting things to do more often.
The playstyle of a Psion is to make using your "cantrip" Psionic Powers every turn feel good by giving them flexibility, and more flexibility and power as you level via the free mastery points - this means they can keep pace in damage, but they can also be used for enhanced utility, all the while giving the option of spending Psi Points to further the effects.
The spells will fill in many alternate applications both for utility, AoE, and specific complex functionality.
Obviously I've just basically lifted Mystic Arcanum to make the scaling work better (as the scaling at high level with psi/spell points breaks down at that level.
Let me know any thoughts you have. Expect to see a playable build in the next week or two as I get things sorted out and crunched (and fill out that pesky 10th level ability... tried a few things there, not sure on it yet).
I do intend to make custom some custom Psion spells. Those are not here yet, and they may not show up till v1.1; haven't decided. These will help balance and round out the lists the powers grant (you'll notice they are somewhat lopsided right now).
I should also note there is a lot of flavor and ribbons missing still. As I said, the point of this build is for me to start crunching numbers to see if any of this really works, I just wanted to share it so people could share any thoughts at this more formative stage.
For those wanting a playable build, I think you can expect that this week or early next week.
