Artificer Subclasses: How to Handle?
Added 2019-05-18 06:59:59 +0000 UTCSo the problem I ran into with the Artificer 2.0 was that almost all the subclasses started to have core variants with considerable variation. On one hand, it makes sense to make these options a core part of the subclass, and the Alternate Artificer is all about cool options.
On the other hand, part of the idea Artificer 2.0 was to simplify and streamline things a bit, and that was definitely not happening.
So... the options aren't going anywhere, but I have two main paths forward, and I figured I'd ask the people who care the most - you! :)

The added complexity of maintaining multiple upgrade lists would likely not be worth the clean design of divergent subclasses core abilities.

2019-05-19 04:03:33 +0000 UTCI'd rather see broader subclasses with longer upgrade lists, even if some of the upgrades aren't relevant to my chosen variant. I'd only like to see the subclasses separated if there's a major mechanical or thematic break (like Gadgetsmith's changing upgrades at a long rest, as a mechanical example).
