Crafting Preview Update - Blacksmithing!

Now the cover image hopefully makes more sense!

This covers the framework for Blacksmithing - there's a LOT to add to still, but this introduces the framework for it as well as the all the template for weapon building (this is actually where that template originally came from!) and starts to get into the ores and effects.

There will be a lot more coming here for the effects of metals and alloys, as well as armor and non-weapon items you can craft.

I have also added monster harvesting to alchemy! Waste not want not... who doesn't want to drink ground up monster parts?

Things continue to expand. The next update may or may not have enchanting; I want to get all 3 starting branches in and than really get to work in fleshing them out more completely.

I should also add that the balance of difficulty and cost is... early. It's not necessarily all around, and a lot of thought has gone into it, but I tweak one part of the system ehre and there and that sometimes has effects that have not been fully thought through. I just want to emphasize we are still before the 1.0 here, and there's literally days of me sitting down with numbers and spreadsheets before I would say things are "correct" for this version of crafting with difficulty and cost. It's pretty hard right now, and that's intentional (this isn't just supposed to be free stuff!) but it might be TOO hard right now.

Next update will be Enchanting, Armor, more special metal properties, more monster parts, and some craftable goods. Enchanting is a big on that will probably only see part of it in the next update, as it's really two branches in one (scrolls and permanent enchantments... which often take scrolls as part of their materials! :) )

Next post will probably be not crafting, but an update for Psion, so stay tuned for that. Occultist probably won't get an update before the end of the month, but hopefully next month we'll see the first version of it out in the wild... it's started some playtesting, so hopefully at least spells from it will start leaking out soon :)

Under mechanics "they are inherent to the nature of during stuff into other stuff" should probably be ”of turning stuff into".

I am so stoked to see your take on this mechanic/function. I've always tried to work it in as a possibility into my own campaigns to give my players more choices and a way to customize/personalize their own weapons. Personally having spent many hours of my own trying to work out the mechanics, I'm excited to see your take on balancing material cost, production cost, proficiency/skill and working in backgrounds. Form someone that has tried to set up a blacksmith system, I know the vast array of spreadsheets as I also have my own share since I don't abide by the standard DMG economy.....the prices make no sense haha. Can't wait to see the first version of your system!!
