This episode wrecked many a fool. Myself included. Cried the first time I saw it, cried again 5 years later (even more so)....

I'm just teasing you a bit, because in ep 7, you sounded as if you weren't attached to the characters *because* they're one-off characters. That came off as a WTF to me (and probably to a lot of people), because we've seen you get attached to episodic characters (like the girl and the soldier from Monster, and ep 4 with the princess). It was probably just poorly worded--ep 7's execution was what was lacking for you, not its episodic nature.

Now that I've had the time to collect my thoughts, there's a lot of things this episode did better than episode 7 imho. - POV through the child's eyes - 1000 reasons why this is amazing - Have the death happen in the episode - More emotional impact - Oscar in 7 was written to have an arc in one episode, that's extremely tough to do. - This episode focused on a simpler story, the feelings of two characters, thus the execution was better. - Finally, this episode was solely devoted to the family, whereas episode 7 spent way less time on Oscar, the character that was going on arc. All in all, both are great episodes, but this is the undeniable masterpiece comparatively.
