I understand the comparing to MHA but, One punch man came out first so of course there is no reference to it.

He might be wrong about MHA but don't pretend like One punch doesn't (purposefully) draw a lot of parallels with plenty of anime/manga tropes... Just like MHA. And it's not about "ripping things off."

AJ, my dude. MHA is the series that's doing the ripping off. OPM came out first!

As for why no one knows him after 3 years. Its because when the other heroes fight and do stuff theyre fights last long enough to draw a crowd and g et people to see them. Unless a crowd was already there and waiting no ones gonna be around to see Saitama when he shows up out of nowhere and kills something in an instant

OPM came before MHA, so it couldn't be a rip-off. But I agree that this episode definetly feels like a tribute to the dbz tournament tests :D

That is to say, not everything is a reference and it definitely isn't ripping from MHA since it came out first. This is a government organisation and the hero ranking system isnt actual classes, it's tiers of power so the government knows who to call on in times of disaster and such.

I definitely understand why it seems like everything seems to be a reference but it is also important to remember that this world does still have its own conventions separate from other series.
While it is a comedy series it is still written in a way where the world and characters can still be taken seriously in their own way, just with the added layer of a lot of the villains and stuff being overly ridiculous.

The OPM manga (the original version) was released in 2009, while the MHA manga was released in 2014. So, I don't see how OPM "took" the hero idea from MHA... Nice reaction though.

I was just thinking "I hope AJ releases a new OPM reaction soon" and then I got the notification for this. Awesome! Thanks for providing us with such great entertainment.
