(Keep in mind I haven't finished the show. I'm watching with you guys. So no sort of foreshadowing here I am just getting a feeling.)

The way they kept recalling the story of how the animals came to the banquet to be with God made me think that was why the zodiacs were all so drawn to Tohru. One by one they formed an attachment to her and would specifically come to Shigure's house to spend time with her.
