There's just something about them going through one of the harder songs, Haruto being alone, and then them pulling through and having an amazing performance. I was literally in shock when I watched it for the first time

2025-08-08 19:40:47 +0000 UTCI have a very long Matthew defence rant coming im sorry: it's nice to see you be empathetic towards matthew's situation bc a lot of people weren't at the time. I think a lot of people forget it's really easy for us to sit at home and say he's being selfish and needs to put the team first but i'm sure it's hard when your part dictates your line distribution, screen time and time in the centre- and so also your votes and ranking. i don't think matthew would have reacted badly if he'd never been given the part in the first place but he's politely given up the part he wanted on every performance so far and this time he finally got the part he wanted, learned and practised it, and then got it taken from him. I think there's maybe also a bit of a culture clash happening bc korean society values humility and social harmony whereas with matthew being from north america he's likely grown up being encouraged to be confident and fight for his place. on top of that the korean members then try to be diplomatic and phrase it like 'we think this part would suit you SO much better, what do you think?' whereas i'm sure matthew is thinking 'don't act like i have a choice you're changing the parts', and i think the fact they tried to sugarcoat it ended up just making the situation worse even though it's obvious they're right it was ultimately the right decision i just feel bad for him that it happened the way it did but like also fuck mnet for dragging out a drama that lasted a few hours over THREE WEEKS of the show to make it look like matthew was being super difficult??
