2025-08-10 17:43:39 +0000 UTCYestoday is my absolute queen i love this song insanely, the album version doesn't have the majority of taeyong's verse (though the album does have the extended version as a bonus track) that was mostly expanded on for the music video. taeyong and mark's verses are very personal and definitely written themselves, taeyong's is about struggling in the past without having a clear dream for his future, but about how that struggle ultimately led to where he is today so he can be thankful for it, and mark's is a similar theme of the past he gave up in order to get to where he is, for example talking about the 156 bus he used to take to school and how rap is now his 156 bus taking him to the future. personally i think lucas's verse is Nice but not as deep or meaningful as the other two so it feels a bit tacked on... and then doyoungs chorus hammers in that theme of everything becoming 'yesterday', today will become yesterday by tomorrow and tomorrow will become today which will become yesterday too, so everything becomes a memory of the past that creates who you are. taeyong wrote the first version of yestoday in 2014 before they even debuted and he already had doyoung's voice in mind for it, mark and lucas were added to the mix much later on, so being able to realise it together in 2018 is such a great story that adds to the meaning of the song. since you enjoyed it i'd also recommend light bulb from the resonance album, it was also written by taeyong for himself and doyoung and they performed it during the smrookies days (under the name switch off) and kun wrote chinese lyrics for it too, the album version is sung by taeyong doyoung kun and sungchan
