Living Thesis

Thesis is a character I have waiting for a Pathfinder 2 campaign that might not ever happen.

A summoner (or maybe a conjuration(?) wizard?) was unsatisfied with the current limitations of summoning magic. Impermanent and temporary. They sought about attempting to write a more powerful, more permanent, method of summoning. Something more akin to creating new life than simply pulling and shaping essence from another plane temporarily.

They wrote the formula, sacrificed part of their own body to achieve it. Pulled a creature from the ether. It stayed much longer than any summong spell prior, and the creature seemed capable of thought, learning, and independent reason. Their magical thesis was proven correct.

They spent time with it, taught it about the world, attempted to teach it magic, showed it the simple beauty of the material plane - how the trees changed color in autumn, a rainbow, etc. After a significant portion of time, maybe a year or longer, a portal back to the nothingness that the creature was pulled from suddenly opened and drew it back inside.

It reached out to them, but the portal closed and sheared off their arm.

This should have been the end of it. Hypothesis proven correct. But they'd grown attached. They spent the rest of their life poring over tome after tome, searching for arcane secrets that would correct the fault in their spell.

Old and grey, they finally had finally perfected it. As they pulled the creature through the portal, their body fell limp - the last of their vital essence sacrificed to bring this creature into the world permanently. One life for another.

A set of clothes and a note were left folded up within sight, addressed to the creature, Thesis, by name.

It can read and write, but it can't really speak. When it tries to speak common it sounds like a husky trying to mimic speech.

I don't remember what we were discussing about his class. I think Magus came up? But I also remember discussing Wild Magic, with a Wild Magic Surges coming up because of his poor grasp of language.

He is entirely inspired by this song by Mili that makes me really sad ;u; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6q41EnhPnU
