The stereotype is pretending to have been cursed/possessed by some power. One of the tropes is wearing eye patch or bandage a hand like seal that holds that curse. I think a good series that introduced this to me is anime "Chuunibyou demo koi ga shitai". Cid sisters behavior copies that, but she does not know and Cid has understanding for her because he went through the thing, but he evolved it into reality, which is what makes the series fun.
