I hemmed and hawed over whether or not I would run Tomb Of OBLUEteration as an actual campaign. It seemed like a really silly idea, and I'm already swamped with work, so trying to carve out an additional 3-4 hours a week felt impossible.
But now DM Tina is back in Canada, and she, myself, Beth, and Liv were all able to agree on a time and date that works for us.
So, when we were all free, I ran a very quick session zero!
Let me introduce you to our party of misfits.
First, I had Tina, Beth, and Liv use D&D Beyond to randomly generate four characters each at 5th level. The only things they could customize about them was the name and gender. Everything else was randomly selected: class, background, species, ability scores, even spells!
And lemme tell you...the roster of twelve PC's turned out to be a real collection of dumbasses and weirdos: For some reason, Beth's D&D Beyond spat out three kobolds and an aasimar. Tina got a whole bunch of exotic races like yuan-ti purebloods, genasi, and orcs. Liv got mostly humans, but with comically bad stats, with a single goliath fighter to balance them out.
I let them choose their favorites of their four weirdos, and now we have a trio of adventurers. Behold my powers of doodling while running a discord call!

Tina is playing…Oguina, a female pureblood yuan-ti noble druid (circle of spores). She was cast out of her sect of yuan-ti by religious zealots, and left to survive in the jungle. She made it to Port Nyanzaru and is posing as a human princess. With the Blue Curse upon the land, she seeks to end it and return to her sect a savior.
Trait. “The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can’t do it”
Ideal. “Aspiration. I'm determined to make something of myself to prove my people wrong.”
Bond. “I will do anything to prove myself superior to my hated rivals of my sect.”
Flaw. “I have a weakness for the vices of the city, especially hard drink.”
Tina's main notes for me were "I really wanna play a brat, and get revenge on you for being such a little mary sue in my games."
Fair enough.

Beth is playing…Snex, a female kobold sage wizard (school of conjuration).
Snex arrived on Chult with her two clutchmates, all of them under orders from the red dragon Glazepyre to investigate the Blue Curse. Glazepyre is thus far the only dragon who has contracted the Blue Curse, become a gigantic blueberry, trapped in their lair. As soon as she got a taste of freedom, though, Snex wants to pursue her own fortune and destiny.
Trait. “I'm a hopeless romantic, always searching for that special someone.”
Ideal. “Power. Knowledge is the path to power and domination, and only then will people love me.”
Bond. “I need to create a great inheritance for my eventual offspring, a proper magical dynasty.”
Flaw. “I always want more than what I have. More money, more sex, more food.”
Beth gave me a lot of notes for Snex, and she's invested a lot of heart and time into this little scaly wizard. She also specified that "She's a busty, hourglass shaped shortstack who'll turn every head she can". Fun times.
Liv is playing…Greta Mountainhead, a female goliath soldier fighter (battle master).
Greta is a voyager from the southern islands, whose neighbors and cheiftess have succumbed to the Blue Curse. She's on a sacred mission to put an end to it at the source. Of this trio, Greta is the toughest and most resolute.
Trait. “I am proud of my physique and beauty and tie my self worth to it.”
Ideal. “Responsibility. It is the duty of all people to make the world around them a good place”
Bond. “I'm guilty of a terrible crime in Chult. I hope I can redeem myself for it”
Flaw. “I have no way of hiding my feelings.”
Liv's notes were just that Greta is "A genuinely good person who isn't good at lying or hiding things, and wants to save the world. But she's also probably the most likely to immediately become a blueberry."
We'll just have to wait and see.
Next session, the PC's get their introductions in Port Nyanzaru, and begin their quest into the jungle to find the source of the Blue Curse.
