Apologies for being slow with this one, I caught covid a couple of months ago & was left with a bad chest infection that prevented me from recording audio, which was very frustrating. Finally better now, thank god. I did get a lot of reading done for future videos while resting up at least

If you're aware of the most popular sci-fi games/movies/books, you'll guess those parts a mile away (it's dramatic irony, not bad writing). The real plot twists are left out of the video. But if you'd rather play it without any spoilers then yeah, you can't skip past it. SB rips off the basic plot and aesthetics so badly that it comes up a lot.

In most cases, the mask is entirely off in that spreadsheet and they are just plainly saying stuff like "2 out of 8 characters are non-white" as the reason for why a game is "woke".

I had an incel friend (20+ years ago), who only liked anime girls and far-eastern girls (I'm glad to report he since recovered). And I agree because it's positing a counter factual. But that is waning in English as it is used and I've come to accept that. Used to listen to if I fell by The Beatles and every time they said if our love was in vain I would go were! were in vain! But you know what John divorced his wife and married Yoko so it were in vain anyway haha

I am also Brazilian, not that it matters) I remember how different the mood was in the video game department. I was once working on an assignment for one of our theory classes, writting about Feminism and video games (imagine that!) and the teacher from the games department asked me to go work on that somwehere else, because he didnt want the guys working on sculping sexy ladys in Z Brush to feel uncomfortable. I work in animation for TV shows, a way less awkard environment, but I have always been fascinated by the culture wars happening in the game world.

I think the supposed unattractiveness of her face is partly due to her facial expression. She looks confident. Very confident. If someone was trying to have sex with her, she looks like she'd make demands. I think this gets to the root of her supposed 'unsexyness' or 'masculinity'. The ideal here isn't just a Traditionally Attractive WomenTM, but also women who are passive. Like Eve from Stella Blade, who appears to have no personality at all. You can project whatever fantasy you want on Eve. Aphrodite looks like she'd be mildly terrifying in bed, because if you disappointed her you'd feel her wrath. PS: While the video is great, you may want to consider changing the title. The video is supposedly about Stella Blade but it's really just using Stella Blade as a vehicle for talking about Video Games and the Right-Wing Outrage Machine. Or something. I'm not good at titles. But either way it's a fun video and I enjoyed it.

2024-11-18 21:07:53 +0000 UTCUsing the FF7 girls as examples was a stroke of genius because I remember when the 1st part of the remake was coming out and The Gamers (TM) were super mad that Tifa's boobs were SLIGHTLY smaller than they were in the original...the original where her boobs were literally triangles because this was early Playstation. Even if women are conventionally attractive, that still isn't enough because Tifa went from being an E cup to a DD. Stephanie Stirling was right at the time as are you now: it really is about control.

He puts down an empty chair on stage and talks down to it as if Obama was sitting on it. It strikes me that much of conservative/reactionary twitter talk is a version of this, hallucinating your political rivals. Their jokes aren't funny so they have to imagine a shocked liberal in order to derive some enjoyment.

2024-11-18 09:38:35 +0000 UTCThere is an interesting parallel in how in Stellar Blade, the actual humans are gross monsters, while the androids are hyperbolically beautiful, to how certain "gamers" call realistic looking women ugly and hold up characters like Eve as models of beauty. In a sense, the game codifies the idea that only the artificial is truly beautiful. While there has always been an abstraction of beauty in art, I think nowadays it is easier to exclusively live in the abstract, with social media as a platform where these unrealistic images are curated. Also, I think a prominent idea behind the demand for female beauty is that women are not supposed to exist for their own sake, they are supposed to exist to benefit men in some way, and being titillating to men is just an easy shorthand for that.

It took you out of the game for a bit, but I identify with what you say about reading because I think back to some times even when I was a kid Where I was too sick to do anything but I read and I don't remember any of the unpleasant details about how sick I felt, but I do remember absorbing all those books in a way that I couldn't have done if I had to participate in non-sick daily life haha. Feel very warmly towards you because you combined clarity of thought with clarity of moral wisdom. I don't know how to put it and I sound like a dork but I'm only trying to go out on a limb and sound like an extreme dork to praise you because you've given a lot of meaning to my life. I can think of tons of musicians and authors and scientists and filmmakers and game makers and people of different stripes, journalists and non-fiction researchers and computer coders and all sorts of people who have contributed things that are important components of my life, but of all, the people who just like use the modern platform of YouTube to share their thoughts in like video essay type journalistic endeavors, you've transcended the form in a way that I can't really articulate but I appreciate it tremendously. And as a big Beatles fan, your scouse accent always pleases me. But that's borderline rude to say. I'm a Midwestern American who's always been a fan of British artist like Depeche Mode and the Beatles so I feel a weird layer of appreciation that is probably more of a sign of obvious mental illness than it is of anything else, but I perceive it as my personality haha
