Bravo. Great dissection of gender and flipping expectation vs execution. You always go the full mile and I remain entranced by the journey. Kudos to another great essay!

2024-05-09 23:55:58 +0000 UTCThe cinematography here is TOP NOTCH; I particularly love the “Deconstructing Gender” section. Also, my dissertation was a scale of gender identity that sought to completely reimagine the concept and a lot of my underlying rationale (despite me not having read the theory to back it up except some Butler in undergrad) being that “I really think there’s a lot more to cis people’s gender identities than we’ve explored and we should really be talking about that.” So your last section was really giving me some strong flashbacks, and also made me feel very seen. I think gender as a trauma response is such a FASCINATING concept. It feels powerfully resonant in the sense that our responses to trauma can be creative, flexible, and healing, but that they can also be rigid, inflexible, and stifling, which feels…VERY true of gender as a concept. It’s also a bit weird to me because I identify as nonbinary in part because I feel so dissociated from gender as a concept, which kind of feels to me like it’s a trauma response that was never resonant with me. That’s not to say that I lack the underlying cultural and historical trauma that theoretically underlies gender, just that it manifests differently. BANGER video. Thank you making this ❤️
