[EARLY ACCESS] TO BRAT VIDEO! + poll
Added 2024-11-19 20:20:27 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here's the link to the newest video. Let me know if you catch any mistakes please! um... don't share it. also don't click the sponsorship. It goes out to the public Thursday probably.
Thank you to all who attended the last Town Hall. It was really awesome to see how thoughtful and open to discussion everyone was. The next Town Hall will probably be mid-December. I'm thinking of ideas, and I think many people are obviously worried about the next administration and what we can do and what we should worry about. I understand that some people also want to talk about anything else. So I wanted to get a vibe check in this poll for what people want to discuss

I'm personally less interested in the nitty gritty of the election results or the details of the administration and more interested in zooming back and re-assessing where we are. How do we move forward from here?

2024-11-21 21:20:03 +0000 UTCVoted for a discussion on the election, mostly because I think equipping ourselves with a trajectory and understanding what we have the power to do about it is the most constructive thing I can think of to cope with what is most definitely going to impact a lot of queer people's futures. Hopelessness is exactly how we buckle and risk losing even more, and I want to go into the next administration knowing I'm doing what I can to make things even the slightest bit better. Like wearing a mask and staying home during covid even as others weren't.

2024-11-20 20:03:35 +0000 UTCThe value of human life. Cost optimisation from employers leading to lower self esteem by a working force with a prospect of not being able to afford a home or family. It seems like a systemic issue that employers insist on giving a wage that leads to workers living paycheque to paycheque, rather than being able to save up. How and when did the culture change from salary being perceived as something that should be able to create wealth increase to something that is only just barely covering living cost. Has the value of human life gone down in recent decades? (when adjusted for inflation)

2024-11-20 13:56:17 +0000 UTCSo I haven’t voted in the poll because I can go either way. I don’t feel that I personally need this space to talk about election-related things, but I do feel like I’d gain something from the discussion if we did, and I absolutely want to show up for other people here who do need that space. If we don’t do the election/administration topic, I found the new video super powerful, and would love a discussion around how we define and assert ourselves as human subjects in a world that commodifies our emotions and our lived experience. For me, I was reflecting on how I take antidepressants and shovel money to pharmaceutical companies, likely for the rest of my life, because my neurobiology (like most people’s) can’t really grapple with the realities (particularly the fragmentation and alienation, and the nagging feeling that I am not preparing my kids enough for what’s to come) of my life under late stage capitalism without getting into self-unaliving territory unless I take meds (for anyone concerned, I’m doing really well, all things considered. Meds work quite well for me). Yet I do so fully from a place of aiming to dismantle the infrastructure of capitalism in my small corner of the world, and to create spaces for liberation that don’t allow for commodification and that allow people to connect and experience their full, embodied humanity. That’s just a small piece of my own journey, and I’d love to hear other people’s stories, and what some of their boxes are.

2024-11-20 02:08:33 +0000 UTCI’m five minutes into the video and I’m so sorry but there’s a text revision to the DSM-5 and the image you posted is technically out of date and the new one says DSM-5-TR 😶

2024-11-20 02:01:58 +0000 UTCThe current “what if” is so annoying to me. I would much rather wait a year and have a “this happened in the first year” based on facts.

2024-11-19 23:44:44 +0000 UTCI did say not, but I was honestly really split on it, I will absolutely watch one if that's what you make, I'll just probably take a while to do it because I'm intaking politics related stuff in very short bursts atm.....

2024-11-19 23:18:59 +0000 UTCI'm probably the odd one here but I think I've just buried by concern for the election with my more general sense of impending never-ending crisis. So regardless of what the next video is about, it seems to me that where we left off with the Hamilton video : "do something" needs to be explored and expanded, especially with concepts and strategies and practices such as self-soothing, emotion regulation, and intra-/inter-social care, coping skills ... All that to say, we need to work collectively and in order to do that requires some mediation and responsibilities unique to each of us but still together in solidarity. That's what I'm curious about

2024-11-19 21:12:50 +0000 UTCThere's enough doomerism going around with the election, a lot of "10 ways your life will be worse" sorta vibes. Maybe not labeled or presented that way, but the same result. We all have our expectations set already, this is not a new show, it's a rerun. If we don't want more reruns we should do new things. I don't mind acknowledging the election, it's a very notable reality. But I want to consider my next 4 years and beyond where the election is only a part, preferably a small part. Not a 4 years and beyond defined by the election. Basically, if anyone is on CJ the X's Patreon, I echo his last post. I want to consume art and creations that live in defiance of those forces that seek to dominate lives and cultures.

2024-11-19 20:42:02 +0000 UTCIt's going to be a 50/50 split, isn't it? Of course

2024-11-19 20:37:29 +0000 UTCthe election will come up regardless imo so might as well not make it the whole focus. maybe almost shrinks the problem of the trump2 admin to a single video? obviously not anyone’s intent or goal but i feel like it can be a touchstone for a more… timeless(?) issue?

2024-11-19 20:35:31 +0000 UTCI get the impulse to want to talk about anything but the election, and the very bad expectations I have for the direction the Trump 2.0 administration will be moving forward on. But, I don't think it's in our best interests, not to discuss what they have told everyone, they will be doing with their "mandate" from the election. I don't dispute that Trump won the majority vote. I do refute that the margin of that majority, isn't big enough to account for a true mandate from the electorate. Much like with the election itself, I will happily discuss literaly any other topic, but I wanted to get my 2 cents worth opinion, on why I voted, for discussing that topic.
