It's not a spoiler. It's like saying S8 is better than S5, when you're only on S6. It's like saying in the middle of S12 that "you just need to push through and it will get better". These are just example.

The pain on Dean's face is very clear, yet all Sam does is criticize him, rather than try to comfort or even understand what Dean is going through. If Cas wanted to avoid the pain of Dean rejecting him, then Cas should stop lying, tell then about the war (he's never really said anything other than "I'm at war"), stop stealing things, and STOP TRYING TO OPEN PURGATORY. Balthazar has a right to be worried if Cas is going to try to hold all that power inside him. He may not be able to, as Jimmy is just a vessel. Many fans, myself included, consider S7E1 as the true S6 finale.

I think Lisa telling him that she can't have what she wants that she's trying so hard to get past that and every time he shows up it tears her apart all over again played heavily on what Dean decided to do. I also believe Dean seeing Ben being forced into experiencing the hell of his own childhood in a matter of minutes and doing those things Dean swore to himself Ben would never do or become, left him with only one option. He always said if something happened to either of them that it was on him and of course, what's a little more guilt to add to the crap ton Dean already carries with him. On the other hand what he did doesn't mean Ben and Lisa won't still be a sickening bargaining chip by some demon or monster in the future, they just wouldn't know why and Dean would end up in the same heartbreaking situation - take 2! 😟

2023-09-01 10:44:57 +0000 UTCI would say that what hunters truly put on a pedestal is a life of supposedly blissful ignorance. They're so traumatised by their hunting experience, and by whatever they lost to become hunters, that they idealise not having had those experiences. I really don't see that as healthy. But Dean's choice here is especially unhealthy - he's forcing idealised blissful ignorance on them, which is irresponsible when the real world is dark and full of monsteriffic terrors. It would have made more sense to erase his own memories of Ben and Lisa - they could still call him, but he wouldn't have the baggage. He's 'letting it bleed' - forcing himself into pain out of guilt at the idea it's his fault they were in danger.

2023-09-01 06:54:02 +0000 UTCTechnically, Dean having Lisa and Ben's memories erased doesn’t actually guarantee their safety from monsters/demons, it only guarantees they can’t call him if something come knocking. I think Dean's intentions are good here, and they probably are in less danger if he’s not around them, but they aren’t totally safe either. I don’t blame Sam for questioning Dean on this, not just for Ben and Lisa not having a choice in it, but for how bad this has to be for Dean himself to just pretend a part of his life never happened. He pushes too much down. Hunters put "an apple pie life" on a pedestal as the best alternative to hunting, but from the premier of this season, Dean never actually looked happy to me in this life, despite the fact that I think he did care about Ben and Lisa. But, not only was he missing Sam, but he was ready to hunt something at the drop of a hat. I think there is a difference on this show between what Sam and Dean deserve vs what they themselves actually want (or are comfortable with).
