There's a trend in recent times for people to jump on the 'CG is bad' bandwagon because they figure it makes them seem intellectual and credible film purists, but doing practical effects for some shots is simply either not possible or incredibly time consuming and difficult. CG with time and money can look better than practical. Look at the Rise of the planet of the apes trilogy with FX by Weta Digital in New Zealand, completely flawless close up CG creatures. As a Senior Animator with nearly 20 years experience in movies I get annoyed at the anti-CG nonsense from people with no knowledge of the industry. BTW I'm not talking about you Steven lol, you at least differentiated between good CG and bad CG.
