The Future of Wrestling Docs

Hey folks! I wanted to get something up here quickly, just to talk about the wrestling documentaries a bit and to see where to go with them.

It's getting pretty close to two years since I started making wrestling videos and documentaries that were exclusive to Patreon, and the reaction has been pretty fantastic. Of course, a lot of this was due to necessity -- I put a couple of big wrestling videos on YouTube on my main channel and they got an amazing response, but then they were struck down and I nearly lost my entire YT presence which...well, would have been disastrous.

Even still, I've happily been making them on Patreon ever since -- there's been a whole bunch of them, and in all honesty? They are probably the best work I do -- a great deal of these videos, from the one on Takeshi Morishima, to the Crush Girls vs Atrocious Alliance, Kobashi's NOAH reign and the current series on Misawa-Kawada, are vids I'm highly proud of. And yet, it's not necessarily easy to continue to get a new audience for them what with a public presence that's not exactly focused on wrestling and the general "hidden away" nature of these videos. A big part of me does want these vids to get out to a larger audience and have them seen by as many eyes as possible because they deserve to be.

The obvious solution is to start uploading them on my main channel, although naturally that's filled with risk and not something I'm prepared to do -- as you may have noticed I can't even get bloody Heroes of Wrestling up there now, which reduces the potential for new wrestling fans to make their way over here even further. And so, another alternative is to make a new channel entirely dedicated to wrestling, and specifically Puroresu, and this is something that I have been looking at. There's nothing out there yet, of course -- I have been privately uploading things, making note of the various litany of claims and blocks that pop up and all that, just to see what I'm up against and what needs to change about the various videos to make them more YouTube friendly.

My current idea is to start pretty much from the beginning -- to take the first vids like the origin of NOAH vid, Shootstyle, Morishima and all that, give them a better public home, and to gradually go from there. Some of them will probably need a lot of editing depending on music used, and naturally depending on who I've used footage from...guys like New Japan are obviously no-go areas, for example. WWE seem to block -- not strike, but block -- more than ever. So far, the likes of All Japan and NOAH seem -- touch wood -- ok.

So, to summarise: The public channel will obviously be starting with vids that were made early last year -- I don't want to go in with the more recent stuff immediately as I want to retain a pretty lengthy period of exclusivity for this place and the wrestling content that's available here. I welcome your ideas and input as ever, and also I write this for your blessing -- this is a big change, but it's something that's going to have to be done if I wish for these videos to get more eyes on them. Hopefully you folks are ok with it all.

All the best,

-Kim

Go for it Kim. You make the best wrestling docs I've seen anywhere and they do deserve to be seen. Part of me feels that with the puroseau promotions looking to expand their english speaking reach they're missing a trick not using your docs to do it. Have you tried approaching the companies themselves. It's not so crazy. The guy who wrote eggshells is now the new japan commentator. You definately have something to offer and smaller promtions like noah, ddt or all japan might be interested in your top quality work.

Just a suggestion but have you considered covering the Whacky Side of Japan namely the Wrestling on LSD of HUSTLE as it was pretty much Chikara and DDT Pro but on the budget of AAA Triplemania
