Undefeated!
Added 2023-03-03 02:45:55 +0000 UTCOkay. So I finally have 2023... maybe not resolved but going in the direction I want... so I can tell you what a nightmare February was.
So at the end of January, I was fired without explanation or warning. One day I was told I was going to be made permanent, the next that 'seasonal' could go on all the way to JULY, up to 11 months, the next that I was doing a great job. I was cross-training to hop into ANY opening that became available. Amazon's a reliable job where I know if I work X hours I get Y money. But then I got a call that I was fired, just like that.
Now, upsetting, but I was told I could reapply elsewhere at Amazon within 24 hours and there were a few other Amazon FC's hiring. So the next day I applied... but was told that I was still employed at my site. So I figured wait a day. Next day I reapplied... but was told that I was still employed at my site. So I call corporate HR and they tell me that I was still employed at my site and to go there the next night. So I go...
Locked out. Badge won't let me through the door. And so I'm pretty upset. I call HR again and get told I'm still employed at the site, and I wait almost an hour before HR on site comes out and talks to me. I tell them I still want to and am willing to work and that I'm still employed.
HR apologizes. By this point no FC's are hiring, but there is one site accepting transfers. It's fifteen minutes further up the freeway, but I have like no options. So I say yes. Get told I should get notified any day of my transfer. One day... two days... three days... four days... nothing. And I'm climbing the walls in limbo not sure if I'm employed or not, not sure if I can file for unemployment or not, not sure if I'm getting my bonus pay for the holidays or not...
I should also mention that I HATE applying for jobs. It's not getting turned down. That's fine. It's NEVER getting a reply back. I do poorly in limbo and just sitting and waiting... ugh...
Oh... and about mid month I get notified that the apartment I'm living in is up for sell and the buyer will probably raise rents 'to market average' which is 50% more than I am currently paying. I live in a basement studio next to the laundry room so I get to listen to everyone do their laundry... and they could potentially ask for another 600 bucks when I didn't even know if I was employed? Needless to say, things were tight.
Eventually they let me go back to work at my old FC. The two weeks there put me at paying rent, and I finally got notified that I would be starting at the new FC about a week and a half ago. It's not a bad site. Further drive and slightly less pay. But there's a lot of different jobs to do and I don't mind the variability because it's less boring. There's a lot of physical labor involved in some places so I'm a lot more worn out.
BUT... today I was notified my rent would only be going up a small amount that I can afford. I let them know I'd be renewing and so I have employment and living situation stabilized. Panda's health is okay. My health is okay. My car is okay. My computer is... old but still running.
Whew....
So... plans.
First is writing more. I have a window to write in before work and a tiny one after work. I want to do more daily writes with Homelands before april 15th. I want another chapter of that out. I need more original writing too. I might try to finish and clean up noir and start putting that out on webpages and see if that generates some interest.
Also doing more with game stuff. A lot of that is in the hands of artists and the like so I'm looking at things like RPG maker and other game engines for something like a VN game.
Please poke me more on discord. The interaction is good for me. Questions. Comments. Jokes. Whatever. https://discord.gg/rj6qguuG should work to get you in. It's small and quiet but it's a place where you can poke me to write more and I need to write more.
Thanks for sticking with me. I hope that I can make this a better year than last one.
Somber.
