The Eye Of The World Summary!

PLEASE give me feedback! We are officially 14th of the way there.

Comments

Awesome summary. So, comments: 1. I was wondering if you forgot Thom, because his name never passes your lips from "Leavetaking"... till after Moiraine's Party catches up to Perrin's. I think you didn't notice you forgot him. heh. 2. The Tinkers. Tua'tha'an. The Way of the Leaf. They are not fanatics. Fanatics are scary. As in Crazy Violent Scary. They are true Pacifist. They don't believe in violence. Still crazy. But somewhat admirable (like we admire the Saints, knowing we can never be as good). And somewhat understandable in WoT, since they follow a belief that has sustain them since the Golden Age of Mankind (The Age of Legends). And it was relevant for that time. 3. The endings of Book 1 and 2 are indeed Trippy. These endings and that final fight in Book 13 is the only time we see a Conceptual Level of Fighting, instead of entirely in the Physical Layer (ie. 'I cut you, you bleed' level). In book 1 ending, Rand is like Aang in the Avatar State...and he ended up channelling The Concept/Spirit of The Dragon itself (or in another way to describe it, he equipped The Dragon Card). He does things by intuition and instinct...and in my opinion, after he demolished The Dark Army at Tarwin's Gap, the following fight is partly in Tel'aran'hiod (where he manifested concepts and wield it like weapon). That voice, my theory is the Voice of The Spirit of The Dragon (the source of the many iteration of The Dragon). It can't act by itself. Only the current Dragon (i.e. Rand the Chosen One) can act at that time. Make sense? 4. Remember when Moiraine was explaining to Nynaeve about channelling, and the progression natural Channeler took before they gain control, or they got consumed by the One Power ? So I always wonder about Rand's 'channelling fever'. The first one hits in Baerlon after he Healed Bela, right? And i remember the second one hits during his boat-trip. So the question is, when did he Channel, the 2nd time? Thank you. And again. Awesome.

Doraemax

The Eye of the World has always been the hardest in the series to get through. The writing style feels different from what comes later, and the dash to the ending is just so weird. I can't wait to watch the summary for the rest of the books, since it's been quite a while since I've read WoT.

Stremse

Good summary. I thought the creator spoke to Rand right before his last encounter with the dark dude

Scott Starr

Just joined for these videos. I’ve had the exact problem you described. Twice actually. I originally read the first 4 books and took a break, and when I came back to book 5, I was very confused. I waited several years and decided to give it another go. This time I re-read it all, starting from the beginning. I made it all of the way through “A Crown of Thorns” and have, again, forgotten key plot lines and was coming to accept that I probably would not give it another go. When I saw on your YouTube channel that you had just put out a summary for the book that I last left off on, and I decided to join Patreon and give it another go.

Andrew Hunt

Had to listen again to this review as I am now more than halfway thru the book. So much of the story is now clarified, especially Ba'alzamon.s continuing mention of THE EYE OF THE WORLD. Wondered why he hadn't just ordered some Black Ajah to travel there and destroy the pool and seize the Horn.

Carol Briscoe

Spoilers AMOL God does speak to And one more time in the series when he enters Shayol Ghul during the last battle he says “It is time. Let the task be undertaken”

Louis Correia

Such a good video series, can't wait for more. Keep it up!

Eric Olsen

re-reading obsessively helps ;) - or just watch these because they are brilliant

Christine Renner

I think the idea is that the dragon appears once in its original form in every turning and then as the reborn version.

Christine Renner

same

Christine Renner

Amazing video! Thanks for all the hard work. I could not wait for the Youtube release (have been following you for several years now), glad I joined the Patreon. Only read the entire WoT series once, but now I want to read it again!

Bas

Delighted Daniel is doing these videos. First time I read the series I used watch his old summeries before I started each book. On my third read and, kinda like Daniel said, I've kinda dropped off after book 12. I'll wait to read Towers until the videos catch up! Thanks Daniel!

Mike Houlihan

Perfectly explained reasoning as to why this summary of The Wheel of Time shouldn't be split into multiple videos available in the latest FN. I originally thought three seperate installments would be comfortable. Now, I want the the whole 14 hour thing with time stamps for book breaks. Make it happen Daniel.

lethen tucker

Thanks for the video! I love that you have decided to conquer such a massive series recap, and seeing how the material filters through another fans mind is a treat. Keep up the work, we will be here to glee(man)fully take it in.

Shane Turner

It help me unlock memories I forgot I had

amador alves santos

It was a very nice experience

amador alves santos

You forgot Nynaeve at the beginning when you list off the iconic characters.

Rachel Miller

Also, I think it was pointed out that Lan didn't kill the Whitecloaks. When asked by Perrin, he said that he doesn't kill when it's not necessary or smth like this

Eldar

52:39 - I believe the tavern name was Queen's Blessing. Just pointing it out, not a huge issue

Eldar

At 20:40 - you say “Trolloc” need a battalion of men, but I think you meant Fade based of how you were talking about Trollocs and since Fades are more difficult to kill than Trollocs.

Trace Carrasco

I like that the intention for this was so that you wouldn't have to reread EoTW, but my main conclusion was "Man, I really need to reread EoTW, I forgot how good it was"

Kate K

I love what you do, i love the way you talk ita so interesting and fun, i hope to see more, actually, cant wait for anotherr

Sara Maar

This is soooooo good and cathartic and perfect. I’ve read the whole series and half way through a reread with my partner(his first time). I love all the tally as someone who ‘knows’. It also really helpful for my partner to know what to pay attention to. Also, I never conscientised the cloaks thing! As soon as you said it my mind exploded. You do a great job of making the foreshadowing explicit which makes suits this format really well. You read the excerpts with such insight that the impact of them hits harder than when I’ve read them. The Manetheren story hit so much harder that when I read it. Also, I want to express gratitude for taking on this gargantuan task. I can’t think of anyone I trust more. I have felt the loneliness of not being able to share WOT with many people because the barrier to entry is quite high considering the number of books. Only thing I would add to this video is a lil intro to Nyneve as the wisdom, what a wisdom is and Nyneves unique experience being young for a wisdom and her sense of responsibility to not only the main characters but Edmond’s Field as a whole. This links into the rest of her arc. Love it and thank you! The length is great. I think you need this length per book if you can.

Cara-Leigh Salzwedel

The humor and small touches really make it solid!

Royce Shatzel

The editing is absolutely fantastic imo. You’re doing an amazing job. I imagine it’s not easy, but I’m impressed with the quality.

Royce Shatzel

Would love to explore the nitpick on LTT not being called “The Dragon Reborn” because he was the Dragon born. Is that because this turning’s Champion of the Light is the Dragon in the previous Age and the Dragon Reborn in the Third, meaning that while there is always a Champion of the Light in a turning…they do not always get the Dragon/Dragon Reborn monicker? My brain would tell me since there are endless turnings and they all produce a “Dragon” would they not all be the Dragon Reborn? Loving the idea for this series, thanks for putting it together.

Tyler Knabb

Great and very entertaining video! I’m in the midst of a lord of the rings audio-listenthrough but I’d be lying if I weren’t tempted to start WoT again (which would possibly be the second time this year)

Alec Melone

Awesome. Love the little sound effects sprinkled in for humor (e.g., evil noise when the Forsaken appear at the Eye). Can’t wait for the next one!

Kyle Tognan

exactly what I was going for! Thank you :)

Daniel Greene

Narg wasn't wrong, he was so smart 😭😭😭

Anastasia Wyrmberg

I loved it. I don’t have any feedback for this one because I was multi tasking with it on and didn’t have my full attention on it.

Jarrett Lee

In the books Blues are referred to as 'seekers after causes', which puts me more in mind of being activists than politicians. But this is a good shorthand :)

Nikita Balfour

Thoroughly enjoyed. The Moraine dialogue felt long? But it is really important and cannot think how else to do that section. Great work!

Christian Bullock

Please continue these. I do remember back in the day, reading the first book, and thinking it was "good enough." But it was good enough to get me to read Book 2. Seeing the author find his voice, it was only a matter of -Time- (har har) to read the whole rest of the series.

Allan Meyer

thank you so much! this is EXACTLY what I needed!

Daniel Greene

I like the idea of reading an excerpt from each iconic moment like you did with moraine’s monologue. It gives non-book readers the chance to witness all of the best moments in the series, instead of just hearing about them. For people who are just watching the video for recap purposes, maybe it could be its own chapter in the video, so those people could skip them if they want to.

Josh Timko

I saw you replied to my comment but couldn’t find it when I opened the thread. But wanted to say he starts off saying this is for people who might only be part way through and need a refresher before finishing the series, so watching for spoilers is absolutely a factor.

Tom Gartin

Great Job!!!!!!

Patrick Minze

Not gonna lie I’m going to watch all of these because I low-key want the spoilers and to know what happens but I didn’t enjoy reading the books so I’m just gonna watch you summarize them. Like Sparknotes but funny. I also want to do this to explain Malazan to people 😂 Also you should just read things to us more often it’s awesome.

ThisisJaysWorld

So far I think it’s great, there were a couple moments though where you used the wrong word: saidar when you ment saidin, that sort of thing. Loving it so far though! Can’t wait to show it to my Show Only friends so that things can make sense to them. (Also you said Greys were into politics or something but I’m fairly sure they are Mediators and verse themselves on laws. I’ve always found the following comparison to be helpful: Blue = politicians, brown = librarians, green = soldiers, grey = lawyers, red = police, white = analysts, yellow = doctors)

Raiven Hann

That was a double white board video! And you were right - you did need bigger ones!

RedValkyrie84

33:20 Lan is clearly riding a Ryshadium lol

Tom Gartin

Some of the side comments, like about Bela or references to the last battle, could be spoilery for folks on a first read.

Tom Gartin

The little asides that came on like pop-up videos were too fast. If you watch on faster speed as many of us do, they go by before you can read them.

Phil Parkman

- Technically Moraine tells Nynaeve that she can channel after SL and not in Baerlon - Perrin killing the two whiteclocks seems worth putting an edit in for the youtube people - Lightening destroys the entire wall in Whitebridge so they can just walk out - Elaida being with Morgase is later explained as a deliberate machination by heself ? - the grey Ajah: diplomacy - Queen‘s blessing (not guard) - Technically, the ways were a thank you from the male aes sedai and were gradually corrupted (presumably after they had died?) - Bela got energy from Rand not his own horse which is a nice plot beat to everyone needing to help esch other

Christine Renner

This was so enjoyable and fantastic. A few notes:

Christine Renner

Those are two I noticed as well. The Perrin one might actually be worth a pin for the YouTube community.

Christine Renner

I am reading WoT for the very first time. I started when the show was canceled because ya know, I HAVE to know what happens at the Last Battle. I have been reading one book a week so far, and I just started book four! This series is going to be so much fun for me. Thank you for all of your work Daniel!! Your love and passion for WoT and the world RJ created radiates throughout your content. Finding your YouTube Chanel, and listening to you speak about the series has magnified enjoyment in reading the books tenfold. Thanks again for creating these summaries. You are the GOAT!

Angela Renee

I have wanted something like this since my first reading of the first book back before my memories became legend. Thank you.

Aaron

This is a brilliant summary :)! Also 5/5⭐ for the whiteboard use. The height difference of the Moiraine drawing was such a perfect detail 😄

Sabrina

idk if any one said this but around 22:48 you say ManetherenDELLE, multiple times, leaving out the R. It is ManetherenDRELLE. Ik you have dyslexia but you also said you want this as accurate as possible 😘😜

mk9beatz

In the book Thom joins them right at the beginning of their journey when they leave Emond's Field. He's basically hanging out in the stable when they get their horses and decides to come with them :). He's also present in Shadar Logoth

Sabrina

Great! Maybe consider four installments.

lethen tucker

I was able to enjoy an entire Padron 1964 Anniversary series cigar while watching this. Only at the 50min mark right now. Humor is good, what I would expect. Information is on point from what I remember from my third reread approximately a year ago. Can't wait for The Great Hunt.

lethen tucker

This was a fantastic review. The humor lands, the details flow, and you convey your passion about this story so strongly that it makes me passionate about a story I haven’t read yet. The reading segment was way longer than I expected, around the thirty minute mark, but once I settled in and realized just what you were doing and went for the ride it was also a lot of fun. Getting to enjoy the prose was also helpful as an outsider. I see some people say certain details are off here and there, and while I wouldn’t know for sure, definitely don’t let it throw off the smooth pacing you have going on. This was a perfect after work video to vibe to while doing chores. :) Also the whiteboard is funny as hell.

Royce Shatzel

Great video! Just a few quick notes: The inn was called The Queen's Blessing. I think it’s worth mentioning that Perrin killed a Whitecloak — a pretty big moment. You said “Trolloc” when describing how hard they are to kill, but I think you meant Myrddraal. Other than that, this was awesome and really makes me want to do a re-listen!

Johny Leatherman

Love the video! Just a few notes: - Moiraine never tells them why Shadar Logoth is bad, just that Trollocs fear it. Doesn't excuse their idiocy at not putting 2 and 2 together, but it does highlight their naivety. - They stay at the Queen's Blessing in Caemlyn, not the Queen's Guard :) - He doesn't land in the gardens and see Galad, Galad came along after Elayne had already bandaged him. (I appreciate you put all 3 together maybe just to smooth the run time) - The Grey Ajah are mediators/negotiators, so a lot of politics and treaties. But mediators is the word used in the books. - Moiraine doesn't mention any of them using the Eye, doesn't mention one of them being the Dragon until Rand reveals his abilities - The Forsaken weren't deliberately put in the prison, it was more like a happy accident that the 13 most powerful of them were there. - You made a classic RJ slip and accidentally said Rand used Saidar, might be fun to keep that in as a homage to how many times RJ accidentally mixed them. Absolutely none of this is criticism, just supplying the feedback requested :) Love that you have undertaken this project! Can't wait for more :D

Nikita Balfour

Daniel, thank you so much for this review. It's been sometime since I read the first book. I was kinda hoping I had time to read it before your review. But at least, once I do begin my re-read, I will have this synopsis to help. Thanks

Carol Briscoe

The Forsaken were given immortality during the Age of Legends after swearing the the Dark One. They could still be killed, but they would no longer age like other Channellers :)

Nikita Balfour

Agreed! I think breaking them up will make it look much less overwhelming to more casual WoT fans. That being said you have a lot more experience with the You of Tubes algorithm. If there's a reward based reason for epic length videos, then we'll all work it out. ps Great job!!! Forgot how crazy that ending was! And I adore the art :) pps Kayla, your notes brought the LOLs!

eddy

This is incredibly useful. Got 4 books in before the TV show started so need a good catch-up before diving back into it. Bravo Daniel 👏🏻

Adam Bruton

Daniel, you did an excellent job on this! I've only watched the first 23 minutes so far and I'm realizing how much I've forgotten or never noticed when I read the book, and how many details were in the part of the book that's covered by the first episode of the show. You've done an excellent job summarizing it, and I love the "I'll get back to this later" tally. Watching this has made me want to go back and read the book again! I have one big suggestion/criticism that I want to offer -- don't wait and make this a massive summary of all of the books. Please! It's already quite long. Please consider releasing the video for each book as a separate video. Link them as a playlist, but keep them separate. It will be much more user-friendly for just about anyone who watches YouTube, or at least that's my opinion as someone who watches numerous YouTube videos each day. Maybe other Goblins can chime in to agree or disagree with me?

Melissa Worcester

I'm so excited for this project. I've read the WoT two times so far, it's my favorite book series. I actually became a patron just now so I could follow this. Here are some notes: When I read, it really helps me understand the story better when I know where in the world we are, so it's great you're showing maps. Perhaps you could throw some arrows or trails on them to show where different groups are moving to and from? 1:34: Isn't the the first chapter 4000 years after the prologue, not 3000? It would be nice to see art and not only images from the show. For example, characters, cities, waygates. Huge fan of reading aloud important sections of the text. Keep doing that. Spoiler talk in the introduction of the video. Is it safe to watch the summary of the first book if you have only read the first book? You kind say it indirectly, but if I were a new reader, I would feel safer if it was stated explicitly. 52:39: The inn in Caemlyn is called the Queen's Blessing, not the Queen's Guard. 1:09:45: The wording here might make it seem that the forsaken were immortal in the AOL, which of course they weren't. One of my friends recently started the books. I was asking how far she had gotten, and she told me she was reading about a girl carrying water. I was super confused at first until I realized that it was that ravens chapter, which I have never read. Maybe that is relevant to mention? I'm not sure. Looking forward to see more :·)

Roar Holmberg Rasmussen

This is so great! I remember little of the first book so this is osooom :D the only part I couldn’t fully remember and I felt here as a little jump is when they split.. where/when did Thom joined Mat and Rand? Bc he was not in Shadar Logoth, right? Like they run into each other later in a town or something?? I think I missed that. But anyways, such a fan of this ^^ also loving the cuts and edits :)

Valentina García

Please don't use that ding sound effect, I kept thinking I had notificstions. Otherwise LOVE this! Can't wait to find out how the series ends as a show watcher but not a reader

Rebecca Fatpussy

i haven't finished it yet, but do you plan on digitizing the board and having it available as a supplemental download for when the big video releases?

Tyler Shivers

This great

Steven Darden

Same!

Jake Grice

Just weighed it for you. 26 lbs

Daniel Greene

How heavy is the full book set?

Omar Mtz

At some point I need you dressed up as Charlie Day. Red ropes, cork boards, chiefing cigarettes. Love the video.

Blake Engholm

All credit to Kayla for editing them so well so fast. She has learned SO MUCH.

Daniel Greene

Omg yeeeesssss! You got this out FAST

Tyler Shivers

The whole reason I subscribed!!!

fightnerd

Separate video :)

Daniel Greene

Great vid! Do you plan on doing New Spring too?

Price Everett

20:41 I think you meant to say “If you’re going to kill a Myrdraal….”

Daimondz

New spring will likely be a bonus video after :) We're already worried about hitting the max video length on youtube with the main 14! (It's 12 hours)

Daniel Greene

Sorry to maybe add more work but is a summary of New Spring planned. This is a great video and these help me pick up on things I may have missed on my own read through a

UnknownSoldier

KAYLA COMMENTING: If there are any editing things you want me to stop doing, too, let me know! I'm still getting the hang of this.

Daniel Greene

It gets so much worse lololol

Daniel Greene

Even after reading the series a few times through, the flowchart that is the Eye of the World behind you is.... Daunting. Nice work, Goblin

Breezaholic

The boards only get messier and messier <3

Daniel Greene

This is actually a SUPER valuable perspective to get feedback from! I want to make sure YOU can fallow the story more than anyone. Cause if you can without reading it while also not thinking it's too slow, I've done my job well.

Daniel Greene

Thanks so much for doing this Daniel! I feel like this project is the perfect way to get closure on everything that’s happened with the WoT show and also brings your channel full circle. My chaotic brain also just really loves looking at that mess of a whiteboard

Amy Braun

I sure hope you are using that Nerdforge tome to do your reread for this video series.

Jarrett Lee

Oh hell yeah! Watching after work and I’ll feedback the hell outta this! As someone who hasn’t read WOT *yet* but doesn’t care about spoilers I hope my take will be helpful as an outsider. :)

Royce Shatzel

Finally! Ima eat this with a spoon! OM NOM NOM
