Winter's Heart (BOOK 9 SUMMARY)

Editing Kayla: big (consensual) hugs and forehead kisses to anyone who leaves feedback. ^-^ We're over halfway through the series, and I feel like I've found an editing rhythm, but if there's anything that needs to go---or anything you really love---let me know!

That was Verin, not Alanna, who was going to poison Cadsuane, by the by.

Hold on. the First Sister ceremony is what makes this one of my favorite books of the series. I feel like it's such a BEAUTIFUL moment, and I don't know if it's because you aren't a woman, or have never felt sisterhood that made you wash right over that with a "neat" but wow, that deserves so much more attention, IMO. orrrrrrrrr maybe I'm alone on that? lol. I sob through it on reread.

Feels like there is something missing regarding Mat. Last we "saw" him he had a wall fall on him. Now he is just up and about? Aludra still is in the Managerie right? And Mat visits there? And Valan Luca is reworded for have sheltered the S'redit? Missed a "more on that later" We meet Doilin at the rebel army camp in Cairhien and Min has a viewing of him of him not being a great guy. He is then called Daved Hanlon Rand can't use his sword in Far madding, but they can because they are cheating. Min also comments that he was almost killed and had killed one (two+?) Ashaman and she had not sensed a thing through the bond. He replied something like "It needed doing". Lord Luc/Isam is two persons merged into one. One in the dream world and one in the regular world. It has been stated i earlier books that these two persons has gone missing in the blight. Isam, who is related to Lan (cusin), was involved somehow in the fall of Malkier I think? Lord Luc is related to Rand; Brother to Tigrane, making uncle to Rand and Galad. Is it stated or hinted that Syndane is Lanfear? I don't remember. If it is only hinted in this book, don't present it as a fact for ppl who have read up to this point. This is the first time you mentioned Syndane in these videos, but it sounds like you already have introduced her. The Aes Sedai have bonded the Ashaman as worders. This needs to be explained better, not just mentioned. Becomes important later in the book and later on as well. I do like the parts where we are read from the books. But if something have to go timewise, that is it. I don't feel like it is really needed for what this is supposed to be. I don't know, but I feel like they disturbs the rhythm of the pacing. If I had to choose between them and more in-depth explanation about the world and events I would choose the explanations.

Great summary! I feel like I finally had someone to discuss these books with. Thanks for your job!

I'm actually on my first read through of the series (my brother is a huge WoT nerd and has been telling me to read the books for twenty-something years). I'm in the midst of the slog now (currently about halfway done with Crossroads of Twilight). It's not my favorite part of the series so far (that still is the entire flashback sequence Rand has in Rhuidean). I appreciate the hard work Daniel and Kayla are putting into these videos. It's not an easy task . Thank you for taking the time to do this.

Thanks for another video guys! Personal opinion, I find Path of Daggers the most slog-like and enjoyed Winters Heart and Crossroads of Twilight more. But that might be because I’m a shameless Mat fan. The Masema storyline has always felt off to me. Such a good concept for a character and plot point, but it just didn’t quite land for me. The Shaido Wise Ones just making Sevanna one by declaration always annoyed me so much because it went against their way in such a big way. But I suppose their alternative was to accept Rand which they double didn’t want to do. I love how in the Wheel of Time there were multiple prophecies and each faction was so dead set on their version. The Windfinders weren’t part of the plan, Mat added them in because when he went to see Teslyn he saw that they still had some fight in them. So on the night of the Plan he released one and taught her how to release her friends, but he didn’t mention that to anyone. Selucia isn’t the one who exposed Tuon’s title, it was Egeanin who told Mat it was death by slow torture to lay hands on her. After she said this Selucia came out, she was begging for Tuon’s life and going to attack Mat, but at a signal from Tuon she didn’t attack him to preserve her secret job as Tuon’s bodyguard. I don’t think it was Gray Men attacking Elayne and Dyelin, just regular assassins after Elayne had been taken out by forkroot. Back in the Age of Legends the binding rods were used as a way to punish channelers as it was one of the only ways short of severing them from the source. Nyneave didn’t get arrested, just Lan and Rand 😊 The Cleansing was one of the best scenes in the series overall! Iwish there had been more to the prophy about the one who takes callandor a second time will follow after, Narishma would have been interesting to be more focused on later in the series. Elza has decided that it’s her duty to see Rand live to face the Dark One so that the Dark One can defeat him, that’s why she’s so fervent about keeping him alive despite being a darkfriend. I'm really hoping that in the A Memory of Light summary you narrate parts of the last battle, I don't want to say which because of spoilers, but I have fingers crossed!

Just Rand to each of them and each of them to Rand, but Elayne and Aviendha have a kind of awareness of each other after becoming first-sisters :)

Nikita Balfour

I got so aggravated by the slog that I stopped reading midway through this book and DNF the series. These videos have reinvigorated my original enthusiasm and deepened my appreciation. Thanks!! Also... Yoshi at 31:50 was beautiful.

It took me literally decades to read all of these so the video summaries have been amazing 😂 One thing I wasn't sure about though, when the three women bond Rand, are they also bonded to each other. Or is it just Rand to each of them and each of them to Rand?

Sensorcelled

High quality video summary makes the slog seem to go by quicker. Even when I had to wait a year between books, I never thought the slog was that bad -> you did have to be invested in the strategy rather than the tactics though.

Phil Parkman

Slog it may have been but the scenes with the Choedan Kal -cleansed- me of any misgivings. Thanks for quoting from the book, I haven’t had a chance to re-read it yet. Also b-roll / stock images are working. Don’t know your cats but it would be ironic and a perfect visual if they ever sleep in a yin-yang position.

Allan Meyer

Honestly, watching these videos have made me realize what the slog actually was. Cause while reading I remember being like “man this is taking a really long time” but I never connected the dots. I remember just feeling drained at some of the middle books having to follow some storylines.

Mapleleaves

I love these summaries so bad, they somehow make me appreciate the freaking slog and how it helps with the progression of the story (even though it didn’t feel like there was any progress when i first read them 10 years ago)

Juan Miguel Gutierrez

Very excited when each new one comes out. I love these. Keep up the good work!
