Chick Corea - Crystal Silence

We posted this video months ago at the start of the channel, very close to Chick's passing. If you haven't seen this already, we hope you enjoy! :)

Chick Corea - Crystal Silence

Comments

This LP was a blind purchase from the sales box of some supermarket, just because I knew from friends, that Return to forever is supposed to be good music. In those days, it was for me with favourite bands as Iron Maiden and Rush just too "lame". Nowadays it's the perfect "edge of the day music", I can picture myself on a Saturday morning, moving from sleeping room to living room, enjoying the sunrise and a book and listen to this kind of music. Or listen to it at the end of the day after a stressful day at work ... this is gonna help you to calm down. On the other hand I don't see a real connection to the "wild" music of later Return to forever, especially the Romantic Warrior album with the best outfit ever : Al di Meola, Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Lenny White. Maybe you can react in the channel to Medieval Overture or Romantic Warrior. And as somebody mentioned before ... your room looks really "empty" back in those days

Chick and Gary Burton do a lovely version of this as the title piece on one of their duo albums.

Hi ftlpope. I also sent N&L the album “Open Your Eyes You Can Fly.” Great track. Thanks ✨🤪

This is the album that drove me to Brazilian music in the 1970s. Airto Moreira and Flora Purim (husband and wife) are on this, drums/percusion and voice, both Brazilians, make this album. Stanley Clarke on acoustic bass and Joe Farrell sax and flute. Further it is on ECM a German label that tends record without effects. This band changed over time and lost this spirit. Listen to Flora sing this tune too. You should react to Weather Report, Heavy Weather and if you are after a Miles Davis record, try My Funny Valentine. Airto and Flora made many records and I saw them a cople of years ago in London. Airto plays and sings ok but Flora has lost her voice. The other person you might listen to is Milton Nascimento but be careful, he has made albums over about 50 years and some are patchy. He is the best singer ever recorded so try this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3KrqxyCn7k. Best wishes FTL Pope

I got to see Return to Forever in the Dallas Tx area in 2011. Zappa Plays Zappa opened up for them. Al was there and he sounded great. Jean Luc Ponty was playing with them as well. It was a damn good night Nick.

I'm almost at a loss for words but here's two, simply beautiful...

I think Al di Meola was the guitarist that most influenced my playing when I was a teen. He completely turned around the way I looked at guitar playing. I studied so much to get that staccato playing down. Then with Allan Holdsworth I had to unlearn staccato and learn legato. Fantastic musician

I remember in 1973 when this 19-year-old was hired by Chick Corea as the new Return to Forever guitarist, and I thought, "What? He's hiring a 19-year-old?" And it was no surprise three years later when Al Di Meola released In the Land of the Midnight Sun that I found one of my mainstays in guitar.

I was thinking that Mauricio: old school N&L! Wait, there’s a wall behind all the gifts received???

Sad song in tribute to Chick. I can’t help but notice how empty your background looks compared to now.
