David Torn - 3 Minutes of Pure Entertainment

First comment here as I'm just catching up with your older videos. If you like this album then you might want to check out a later incarnation...Bruford Levin Upper Extremities featuring Bruford, Levin and Torn but with Chris Botti on trumpet replacing Mark Isham (who, incidentally, went on to become a major film composer). An even later twist was the album Torn, Levin, White featuring Alan White on drums....all amazing stuff.

All the musicians on this piece are among the best of the best and have played with a wide variety of artists over the years. You've heard Bill Bruford before - he played drums and percussion for all of the early Yes albums, up through Close To The Edge. He's also been with every iteration of King Crimson since 1973. Tony Levin is another King Crimson alumnus, and has been with every iteration since Discipline in 1982.

I think there was less jamming involved than you were thinking. There is no keyboard, only Bruford, who was playing that opening repetitive figure on electronic drums, Levin on stick, Isham on trumpet, and Torn on guitar through a harmonizer. Torn and Isham played a lot of melody lines together, which would have to have been written. I think the 3 minutes of fun is the soloing that goes from 6:33 to the end. I think what they did was turn the tape over and add delay to the guitar part afterwards, so you would hear the delay (on the left side) slightly before the actual note when the tape was flipped back over. That was probably fun.

3 Minute warning by LTE is actually more than 28 minutes long and the CD has the following information to this song: The album's back cover includes a humorous disclaimer on tracks 9 to 13: Caution: "Three Minute Warning" is not for the musically faint-hearted, impatient, or critics of extreme self-indulgence. If you fall into any of the above categories, please hit the stop button on your CD player after track #8. I like that.

Pretty jazzy and "wild", I like the trumpet. For sure not everyday music. I checked the tracklist of the album and found : Egg learns to walk :-) Marley came and left :-) Long time ago, since I saw the "Überfrau" T-shirt :-)

Would love to hear you two react to “The Winery Dogs”. Song suggestion - “Six Feet Deeper”.
