Pat Metheny - Sueño con Mexico

After getting blocked on YouTube, we are now able to share it here with you!

This was recorded before our trip to Mexico and now that we're back we find ourselves 'soñando con México' (dreaming of Mexico, like the title!)

Thank you for this awesome request!

¡Viva Pat Metheny!

Pat Metheny - Sueño con Mexico

Comments

I loved all your Pat Metheny reactions! I understand that doing 20 consecutive tunes by a specific artist is problematic for the channel. But since some time has passed since then maybe you can consider doing a Metheny tune from time to time, since he has so much more great stuff. Thanks! I would recommend As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls. The whole album is wonderful especially the 20-minute title track.

Agreed on above and especially Shadows and Light! So sad most of the players you mentioned above are no longer with us. Lyle hurt the most.

I think I understand what you're saying about possibly over-reacting, so to speak, to Metheny's work. There's so much of it, and he's a compelling musician, composer, collaborator, and articulator of music in the broadest sense. Still, I'm disappointed we might not be hearing (and watching you react to) much more of his stuff. That said, I hope you will privately, if not publicly, spend some time exploring his earlier albums such as Bright Size Life, Watercolors, Pat Metheny Group, American Garage, and As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls (with Lyle Mays). You might also, if you're up for it, share a reaction to a medley featuring Metheny from Joni Mitchell's live double album Shadows and Light: "Amelia" into a nice Metheny solo into "Hejira." On the album, Joni's band includes Metheny, Lyle Mays, Michael Brecker, Jaco Pastorius, and Don Alias. I am certain you will love it. I realize I'm commenting a month after you posted this video, but maybe you'll see it anyway.

Thanks for this awesome trivia and for being our official PM guide! Mucho amor!

Thanks Buddy! This video was before we set up the new system which prevents this from happening. It seems to be working much better now to keep it fair and equal. Thanks for your love and concern!

Pat actually has a rant about Kenny G. Pat wasn't a fan of him, at all.

Buddy Stewart

I'm sorry to hear this actually. I love Pat Metheny and have enjoyed your reactions to his music about as much as all the Steely Dan reactions. Perhaps you should consider doing Patreon reactions as well as the ones you post on youtube. That way your Patreons can see the reactions they want to see, and you don't have to subject the channel at large to music they may not like en mass. It's your channel of course, so this is just a suggestion, to keep everybody happy so to speak.

A great composer and performer to check as well is Kenny G, different from Pat's style, but Kenny G can soothe the most ferocious beast with that tenor sax.

I bought this album when it first came out when I lived in Texas in 79. At the time I tried to place myself on that rainy highway wherever Chautauqua was (either new or old). Over the years and many moves I lost the record somewhere along the way. I’ve lived a lot of places and now live in the Midwest. I have been to Chautauqua New York now if that’s the reference. As soon as I heard I recognized it, I’m going to have to repurchase it again. If this is the last Metheny he will be missed. Thanks for the selection. Also never say never because you never know.

Hi guys! What a beautiful song to wake up to. Even though I'm now wide awake, it does feel like I'm having a dream, a very lucid one. I've never been to Mexico, but somehow I feel transported there.

First let me say thanks for taking Pat back! Also I will try to mix it up with other artists as well. Here is what Pat had to say about the origin of this beautiful song. “that one was written quickly in a hotel room in stuttgart germany when i realized that i needed one more tune to finish up a record - sometimes a situation like that can really make you focus! it is all based on a continuous arpegio on the nashville tuning that is basically c/d to gmaj7 with different bass notes and melodies coming and going to change the color of the ostinato.“ Once again you guys thanks. 🙏🏽✌🏽❤️

It great to see Pat get some love from a younger perspective. His many compositions over the years have had high praises from the likes of Billy Joel to Kris Kristofferson. An impressive collection of some of the best Jazz this old man's ears have been blessed with. Keep up with content from Pat, it's a deep well of many pleasant journies. If tired and stressed, I recommend some Pat Matheny. You are an awesome couple of sincere and engaging people. Keep up the journey!
