I like smaller places better than giant concert halls; being close to the artist, maybe even standing right in front of him/her/them is so great. I wouldn't pay a 100+ for a single artist and then be maybe 100 meters or more away from the stage and watch everything on video screens. So this looks and sounds like it was fun. Maybe one day in my life I get to see Al live ...

I knew of Al through "Romantic Warrior" and Chick, so when he came to Charlotte, with Renaissance, I decided that it was in my best interest to attend, and so I did, and how cool to sort of relive my favorite of his, and in this context, with Lex yowling joyously in a preferred key at the end. Since those days, other guitarists, other than Fripp, Gilmour, Hackett, Hendrix and Zappa that rise to the top are Egberto Gismonti, John Williams, John McLaughlin (whom I saw at Berklee), Rodrigo, Will Ackerman and Nicholas Lanier, an ancient relative of Mom's who was the King's Master Guitarist. Don't much have those anymore. Should bring it back.

2022-04-06 05:05:59 +0000 UTCFirs time I saw Al was in a small club in Sacramento in the 1970s. He’s great in a small setting. Imagine. His first pro gig was Carnegie Hall with Chick Coreia. What a great record ing. So happy you both got to see him, and only a short drive away.
