Full Length Reaction Guide

We take copyright law very seriously, so you will have to sync up our reaction to your own version of the show/movie. To help, we have a range of guiding tools throughout the reaction to help you sync up with us, including a small snippet of the scene to ensure you are in sync.  Any instances in which you see the screen cut, this means we’ve had technical difficulties or have skipped a potential disruptions/bloopers. This means you will need to sync up your copy of the show again, if we are unable to edit these cuts seamlessly into the next scene. An updated timecode will be provided on the screen.  Anytime we pause, there will be timer/countdown on screen to prompt you. So if we’re about to pause, there’ll be a countdown, and you are expected to pause as the number reaches 0. The same will happen when we press play after pausing. You will press play as the number reaches 0.  Here are some popular ways people sync up the reaction with their own copy of the show:

Things that only make sense to Expanse fans: "He's kissing a protomolecule"

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

Yeah, this is absolutely one of the best episodes of Expanse. Glad you guys felt the same way we did.

Chris07

This episode really got me. It was such a beautiful character arc for Miller.

Lauren

Same reason I joined. I can’t wait for the second half of season three and five and six! So many of unforgettable scenes

michael j hill

for the record, i joined your patreon specifically for the expanse and i'm so glad i did. watching spartan get as excited as i did the first time i watched is almost as good as experiencing it for the first time again. worth every penny! thanks guys.

David Perkins

i won't let anyone hurt you!

David Perkins

The double drop worked perfectly as it takes you to the end of Book 1 and now it's good to have a breather after that intense end. Great job on the guess Pudgey! It's tragic that Miller was separated from his Roci fam, but at least they were united mentally, although bittersweet. Ultimately Miller finished his quest and seemed at peace with it. And we're left with more than ever: what the hell is the Protomolecule?

Yoshio

I think they'll eventually make S7 to 9 too, one can hope. Bezos is a personal fan and with how much money he has...

Paul

There's only one season with two finales and that's 3. Season one doesn't have one really (book one ends here), season two just has that one and book two finishes at S3E6. Book three finishes at S3E13 for the second of that season. Then the next three are at the end of their seasons: S4E10, S5E10, then S6E6.

Freja Corbinne

Also shout out to the short but beautiful conversation between Chrisjen and her husband Arjun. That is true love and was beautiful!

Bill B.

I think it’s because she’s about 20 years younger. I’m approx Miller’s age, I’d call a person in their early to mid 20s “kid.” Whether they’re naive or they know a ton of stuff, it’s the age difference. Just my two cents.

Bill B.

Such a beautiful episode. Never thought a … whatever Julie turned into… love story between her and Miller and how brave Miller is would have me tearing up. I can’t describe it this episode is so freaking amazing!

Bill B.

This show does a lot of mid season finales. So get like 2 finales in a single season.

Ahupnatun

And thanks for the double drop, its great to see these two together.

Lindsay Mathieson

Thanks for the double drop. Miller - no! Great episode though. It is as if whatever this organism is, it used Julie's body to extend itself and mutate. Interesting they crashed into Venus - the goddess of love. I will miss Miller. The scene with Chrisjen and Holden was great. She vouched for him because she got to know his mother (at least the one who carried him for 9 months).

Lyn Hurst

I think Miller refers to her as kid as a way of describing her being naïve about the world. Miller, loved everything about Julie, including her naïve Hope for the future. I think in the books this was a finale and end of a book.

michael j hill

Everyone leaves unfinished business. That's what dying is.

Beat Conductor

All hail Reaction Goddess Pudgey! I was gobsmacked when you theorised Julies conscious might be preserved by the protomolecue, right back at the end of S1 I think? Had to bite my virtual tongue to prevent typing anything. And goddamn, you guys are so good. Some of your theories, most interesting. Love Spartans love for the main characters, he really gets them. Re Millers Nuke - when he put Julies hand on it, you can see the protomolecule spreading through its control panel, which goes dark, deactivated. Population of Earth - 30 billion, they are really overcrowded. Eros would have killed around 20 billion - initially. Obligatory - here comes the juice! now things really speed up and get crazy. Not actually kidding, can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of S2 and S3 ❤️

Lindsay Mathieson

oh wow damn this is awesome

CpaSpartan Pudgey

Thank you for dropping the two eps together!

Joan Monroe

Perhaps an explanation of the books to series relationship would help at this point. There are nine novels in The Expanse book series, plus a couple of novellas and short stories. Basically, books 1 - 6 have been made into the TV series (with some short story material thrown in) as follows: Book 1 = S1.E1 - S2.E5 Book 2 - S2.E6 - S3.E6 Book 3 = S3,E7 - S3.E13 Book 4 = S4 Book 5 = S5 Book 6 = S6 It's probably also worth noting there's an almost 30-year time jump between the end of book 6 and book 7, so it makes a "natural" stopping point for the show...though most of us hope they'll be made into future seasons at some point.

T. Arnold Ferguson

Still calling it the PROTON-molecule.. Just an FYI Its the "PROTO-molecule"

hypocritex

I still kind of tear up a bit when they toast Miller's empty seat and then Eros crashes into Venus. So sad, but really epic.

John Neiberger

Definitely in my opinion one of the finest episodes of television ever made

Freja Corbinne

More gravity means squashed like a bug.

Lyn Hurst

"I wake up some nights and I see her standing right there... She takes my hand, she tells me, 'You belong with me.'" - Miller, s2e1 "You belong with me." - Julie, s2e5

R

There are a few I hold even higher than this one, but that said, interchangeable to a degree, all in the same relative S-tier. It is indeed a great question. What the hell is the protomolecule's work?

Paul

This is probably the best episode of the series, and i can't wait for the rest of the season because believe it or not it only gets better from here on out. And to answer the question you had about the Work, Spartan is right, the Work is something that has to do with the protomolecule and i'll leave it at that.

Fara

I think the kiss was very tender. Definitely not some empty "fling" moment but rather the end or beginning of some kind of unfathomable cosmic romance that transcends reality as we know it. That said, it was unscripted, the actors went with it in the moment, and they kept it. Also, to put into perspective the weight of the Roci's decision to pursue Eros, they hit 15Gs or more. If you weighed 100 kilos on Earth, on the Roci during that pursuit, it would feel like your body weighed 1,500 kilos. Utterly unreal and impossible without the fictional "juice" drug they use, but yes, toxicity does become a concern. God, this is such a good show, and we're still just starting... just at the seed stage!

Paul

This is definitely one of the best episodes of the show. And it is kinda a finale because it’s the end of the first book. The second half of this season and first half of season 3 is the second book. Good job Pudgey on the Julie’s consciousness thing! When you talked about it a few episodes back, I knew you would get your flowers when this episode came. Also, Spartan is doing a good job with speculating and theorizing on how the story will progress. When I first watched this, one of the things that got me so excited was just seeing all the storylines colliding (no pun intended), especially Chrisjen and Holden talking and the Roci being at the center of it all, risking their lives no matter what. I just love our little crew so much.

AnastasiyaK

This feels like a finale because it's the end of the first book. You'll have the same situation in the middle of season 3 for the end of the second book. But from there on, the ends of the books align with the ends of the seasons.

Sheri

Way to go, Pudgey! You called the third world in Dark AND Julie's consciousness in the protomolecule!

Sheri

So to answer Spartans question about if Miller can just jump off like Diego (the OPA kid) did. Diego jumped off when Eros was moving at normal speed. I’m not a physics expert but I think at the speed Eros is moving, if miller jumps off, he will be swung like throwing a ball.

Hoary Old Bitch

The music that was playing during the Miller/Julie scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKPZ6mBFGiY

Chad K

We did tell you that you would be gobsmacked :)

Hans Engelen

Oh and the kiss was unscripted and the actors both felt if was appropriate even though the writers were not as thrilled !! I can accept it.

Etta Eskridge

This has always been my favorite episode, so intense, so beautiful. Home is the theme. Julie misses home, but finds her home with Miller, Miller also has found his way home to her. Avasarala cannot leave her home under threat. Our home is threatened by this asteroid that became a ship. The roci crew are now bonded on their home. I am pretty sure Julie deactivated the nuke and absorbed its power perhaps. The set design was beyond unreal and the music: the theme when Miller sees Julie is an unresolved string piece made just for the scene. I feel your pain!! But trust the writers, my favorite comforting theme!!

Etta Eskridge

Welcome to the end of the first book. RIP Josephus Miller.

Golladan

Final change in the opening for the season, as you noticed, the Nauvoo is no longer docked at Tycho. In the clip of Tycho we can see a blinking light on the bottom middle moving away.
