2025-08-06 01:20:45 +0000 UTCJust to expand on this the series is made up of 9 books (though the show only covers the first 6) and a number of novellas. The Epstein Drive story is from the novella Drive. So when you see a side story like this it is often from a novella. There are few others in the series.

2025-08-04 18:32:10 +0000 UTCThe significance of Solomon Epstein's drive is akin to inventing combustion engines, airplanes, jet propulsion, nuclear fusion, electricity, stuff like that. I'll break it down a little. The fastest spacecraft ever to reach Saturn was the New Horizons probe and it took 2 years and 4 months. In this show with a comfortable 1G burn to the halfway point and a 1G burn again for the second half of the trip in the opposite direction ( breaking ) the trip is a few weeks long. The Saturn is around 80 light minutes away depending on where she is on her orbit but thats the average. That means that any radio signal takes 80 minutes to reach Saturn becasue that travels at light speed. Getting that far out in weeks is so far away from what we can do at the moment that we might as well could call it magic. The Epstein drive not only had insane thrust but it was also super fuel efficient allowing people to venture out much further in a reasonable time and start building/mining in the asteroid belt and the jovian system. ( the moons of Jupiter ). Like I said, its like discovering fire. The last episode felt like a season finale becasue this show doesnt care about seasons. They were implementing a book series into a TV show with the help of the original authors working on the show as producers so seasons means nothing, the end of books mark the end of the seasons.
