Dang. It seems like everything Shane says gets a nod just because it’s Shane who says it. A lot of what he says is objectively horrible. You don’t leave a lost child behind just because it’s not your child. Would Shane be saying those same things if Carl was lost? I think not. He’s a jerk. And based on the discussion of his behavior in high school, he has always been a jerk. That is my original opinion as of this point in the show from my own first watch. Maybe a jerk is better at surviving an apocalypse idk, but a jerk is still not a “good guy”. But what do I know? I don’t like Lori either. 🙂

2025-08-14 21:24:58 +0000 UTCJust wanted to clarify this because the show makes almost 0 attempt to explain it. This isn't spoilers since the show will never actually tell you this. Rick, Shane, Carl and Lori are not from Atlanta. They may never mention the actual name of the town - I think in Season 1 it says "Linden County" on a cruiser in but that's allegedly in Georgia. It's a dumb detail that shouldn't have been changed but regardless the point is that they're not from Atlanta, although "Linden County" is "near" Atlanta. They're from a town called Cynthiana, in Kentucky, which is why Rick had to travel so far to find them - it's about 415 miles/668 km to Atlanta from there. In the show Linden County would be almost walking distance from Atlanta so even needing the car at first is silly, he could have taken that bike - lol. They're not familiar with Atlanta and have no attachment to it. It's not extremely important, but the geography of the show is usually lost entirely on show-only people because the show makes liberal use of time skips and location skips and makes everything look like it's happening at the same time, not so much right now but it will later. I think the only reason the show focuses so heavily on Atlanta is because the show was filmed in Georgia and was a huge boost to the Georgia film industry.
