The Expanse 2x13 Reaction

Also we have seen the protomolecule defy logic before and we don't yet know what its capable of, we do know that its finds energy sources to use to continue its goal. The reactor with Julie, even the electronic in the room she was found. Now the reactor on the Roci which is why it was attracted to the warhead. Pudgey was correct when she said its trying to protect itself, the original proto creature didn't and the bomb in its chest kill it, its why Bobby survived. Each time it encounters new situations it learns. As cortazar said they can only understand it by letting it learn, so they fed it Eros.

The homage thing made me laugh! Spartan is pronouncing it correctly fyi

If I wasn't already very gay the shot of Amos in the medical bay with his pants slung crazy low would have made me gay. lol

The conversation between Naomi and Holden when he thought he was dying was beautiful and emotional. I just love them together. They’re both genuinely good people trying to do good in the world even if they’ve made some mistakes along the way.

Spartan got the right pronunciation of homage but the H is silent

Amos is such a great character. Everyone thinks he is just a brute at the beginning of the show and as they progress the writers slowly peel back the layers and it turns out that he might be the most complex character in the show. Wes played him so well and as a result they dropped some of his lines because he was able to convey the emotion with a look or just his eyes.

Yep, the Arboghast was disassembled along with the crew. It's the protomolecule doing it's thing. Destroys and build new things ( repurposes ). You are right about the warhead. If you take a nuclear missile and you shoot at it, you will not get a nuclear bomb. Even if you blow it up, it's still not a nuclear bomb, it's just a dirty bomb ( an explosive device that spreads radioactive material around but the explosion itself is conventional ). To achieve a nuclear explosion ( fusion or fission ) they fire a uranium or plutonium "bullet" triggered by an explosion into a sphere of uranium to begin the fission ( reaction ) and as more and more atoms split the reaction reaches the supercritical mass and it explodes. This process requires mindblowing precisions becsaue the whole thing happens in about 600 billionths of a second. I imagine what they removed from the warhead was the radioactive material in some sort of protective casing.

Nuclear weapons detonate due to an initial internal explosion within the core’s housing that then compresses the nuclear material, causing the actual nuclear explosion. You can drop, bump, shoot, run over, or detonate a grenade next to a nuke and nothing will happen, except maybe cause a radiation leak. Nuclear detonation requires so much force applied in such a specific way that it’s almost impossible to trigger without the initial explosion within the housing.

Post-viewing comment: Pudgy is right, there was indeed a Martian ship over Venus and the same thing happened to it that happened to the UN ship before hand because it was closer to the surface than the UN ship was; you saw it basically get de-atomozied (not positive the right term); basically stripped down to its components by the proto. Not an expert but I believe the nuclear core of the warhead (that ball that Prax threw) is not detonatable without it being in the housing of said warhead. So there was no fear of it blowing. But it IS the nuclear essence of the weapon which the proto is drawn to. Though not shown in your edit, when Naomi said "The protomolecule changed everything... except everything that it didn't" I always took the scene of the UN ship breaking apart to represent how the proto changed everything, and the scene of Bobbie beating up those guys on the ship to represent the things it hasn't changed. There is still fighting and strife between the factions of the Solar System. New technology will never change that. Surprisingly both the pronunciations of the word "homage" is acceptable in English, a rare thing. And I've always pronounced it the way Spartan did because it sounds so much cooler.

I remember being really frustrated with hotheaded Holden in this episode and really surprised by that depth of self-awareness from Amos. I love it when a show keeps you on your toes!

Pre-viewing comment: You are right. Book 2 ends in episode 3x06. But this, like the first finale of season 1 is still satisfying as a finale in its own way. Then book 3 ends when season 3 ends, book 4 = season 4, book 5 = season 5, book six = season 6. Those last three seasons are shorter than the first three.

The Sun Also Rises

Yes there was a Martian ship shadowing the science ship, a stealth destroyer. They tried to "beat them to the punch" and went whole hog down towards the impact crater, and likely had the same thing happen as the science vessel.
