Superman [2025] Movie Reaction

Comments

BTW I would really recommend going back and watching the original 1978 Superman and Superman II which are the “first” comic book movies and the gold standard for Superman stories. This movie pulls heavily from the feel of the original.

I was impressed of your guys knowledge on dc characters Yay

Crispin

Could tell Spartan wasn’t fully feeling this, which is fine lmao. But I feel like the comparisons to Thor Love and Thunder are not really equivalent, mainly because that Thor movie was directed by Taika Waititi, and also isn’t considered to be a good or funny movie anyway. Also I feel like we’re in a post “what if superheroes were bad?!” era (aka The Boys, Invincible etc.) so I for one appreciate seeing a Superman done in this tone. Dark, moody and gritty is Batman territory Final note, the comedy in Mr Terrific’s character IS the fact that he’s so dry and monotone. The juxtaposition between his demeanour and the music in the fight sequence is the point

Why don't you want superman to be a fun movie? That's literally how he is in the comics. Snyders version was not very comic accurate.

NickD

Yeah people that say this version is weak haven't been exposed to enough Superman stories bottom line. Snyder first-timers calling this version weak forget he straight up died in the Snyder version. He also wouldn't (not couldn't) save his dad. I loved the Snyder stuff but also like other takes.

Synthetic_CK

I think for Superman its ok, its more like him this film

"I like a superhero that can be more serious, and I think superhero movies lately have become to jokey. I'll go into this with an open mine." I haven't gotten into it yet but....uh oh.

Jonathanese

I feel like the wackiness, the cheese, the boyscout superman is more true to the comics. Dc comics are crazy and wild, not always overly serious. I love Cavill. But the writing in the snyderverse was too negative and dour. Now don’t get me wrong, I actually liked the snyderverse to an extent. And there were definitely jokes that didn’t always land in this film. So what I’m saying is I like both. But I think Gunns universe will be more in the direction of what these characters are actually like. Clark/Kal is definitely more human in the comics, he isn’t an indomitable alien overlord. He was raised by farmers in smallville. But i appreciate your guys take :)

Cosmic Traveller

By the way Pa Kent was Otis from the walking dead!

Stryder Garvey

Heresy not Hearsay I think would work better.

Shannon Baron

Damn spartan ruthless in the first 45 secs for no reason!

I did not particularly enjoy the Snyderverse films - it felt like there was really huge potential and every scene definitely had presence but combined it just... didnt work for me (although the action made me wish there was a live action DBZ movie lol - and not THAT one). But I didn't hate them. I did like this Superman better, but you guys had some really valid critiques and viewpoints that I agree with a lot of

Paul

Fun movie; just not sure I want Superman to be a fun movie. Enjoyed Man of Steel more for Superman, if I’m being honest. Still a fan of James Gunn, hoping he puts the right people in place; starting by letting Matt Reeves give us The Batman 2.

BigTim86

Thought he looked familiar!!

CpaSpartan Pudgey

fun fact - Pa Kent is played by the same guy as Otis in TWD :)

Walking Dead, Expanse, and Superman...it must be Christmas in August
